Transfer window doesn't close for 2 months. Think we'll need some patience, and not to get worried everytime someone we've been linked to goes elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure Dane and Coops know what needs to be done.
People have to realise we are going to go into the first few games of the season with the squad looking a bit light. We just have too much work to do and there is too much money involved to get every player in before the start of the season.

As long as our first 11 and a few subs are sorted it doesn't matter. The end of the window things will look different, and realistically with our fixtures that's when our season really starts as we will need to take points from the September games.

I don’t think we can afford to replicate the last 2 seasons i.e 0 points from the first 4 games.
For me,the season starts on 6 August-we need to be prepared or face the consequences.

I am not saying go into the season unprepared.

I am just saying expect us to look a bit light going into August 6.

And start with tough games. We could realistically have 1 point from the first 5 games and it would be an okay return. That's the Prem.

35 years old and he missed the entirety of last season through injury?

Go and get him, Fawaz!
I didnt realise he missed all last year through injury should leave him well alone than.... I am not against experience coming in on a free because we need to beef out this squad a lot.

I know what you are saying Emmerson. I wouldn't be against us exploring one or two seen it all players but it would have to be the right player like Cook was in January.

Especially at CM. We have seen so many promoted sides explore that option to good effect. Just for retention of the ball which we really don't have and will need.

I am thinking about how good Moutinho has been for Wolves. Cambiasso for Leicester. Brentford went and got Eriksson although that was more circumstance. I could get behind Fabregas even as a short term thing, you will see how good he is compared to others after 5 mins of watching him. You certainly wouldn't want more than 1, but I do advocate some experience in the middle.

We were linked with Luka Milivojevic, would suggest he may an ideal been there done that type signing for CM (get him on Penalties)
Only 12 months left on Palace deal, who are about to sign Dacoure from Lens.

I absolutely love Fabregas, up there with the best players to watch over the last 15/20 years but the big issue with that type of midfielder is we play a 2 man midfield. Unless you get a physical freak like Moutinho (in terms of natural fitness and stamina) you're almost certainly gonna get outnumbered. I think that was the worry when we were linked to Milivojevic early on as well technically great, mentally great, physically lacking a bit now days.

As Rzar says Cambiasso is another example of a world class player who was probably physically gone by the time he turned up at Leicester and let's not forget Leicester lost a lot of games that season.

If we occasionally switched to a 3-5-2 then I think you can cover that kind of player, as Wolves often do with Moutinho by putting Dendoncker next to him with Neves the other side. I guess one of the benefits of signing Aribo or MGW is their ability to play number 10, wide or centre midfield, should we want to change shape.

We will need a technical option in midfield for some games for sure, you'd hope whoever it is can be a set piece specialist as well.

Aribo would be the ideal signing for our midfield. I'd love for us to get him most of all out of the names we've been linked with so far.
Can’t see it until after the first qualifying rounds of the Champions League and then only if ‘Gers don’t make it to the group stage and I say it as a supporter of both clubs

You know what really grinds my gears?
Even when a team gets to the Prem, and recruits the sort of player they hope will keep them there, the big money-bags come and poach any player showing promise.
Even in that top flight, as a smaller club we are likely to have real gems we stumble across and sign ripped out of our team.
S'not fair!

Mahrez and Kante come to mind.

We have been out of the PL for a while but we aren't a small club.

We have a relatively large ground for its age, a pretty loyal fan base, and a history which few clubs can match.

Are Brighton, Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford, Southampton, Wolves, really bigger than us in any terms other than recent results?

You could perhaps also include Palace, Leicester, West Ham in there too.

The big clubs - no matter how you look - are the two Manchester clubs (though Utd are shit now, and City have been shit until recently), Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, and Chelsea post Abramovich takeover. Then there's the likes of Leeds, Newcastle, Villa, Everton who are big in terms of recent PL history, but rarely get any success of note.

The PL is basically the big six and the rest are a league below them. I know we're short on numbers at the moment but it's still very likely 3 teams will be below us in May.

It's how any team outside the top 6 operate unfortunately and is absolutely necessary to keep moving forward as weird as it sounds.

The vast majority of the teams that go up and stay up have brilliant scouting networks that find gems that are cheap by PL standards and are at that sweet spot between needing development but still good enough to contribute now.

Leicester and Southampton are probably the two best examples. Between them they've had Mahrez, Kante, Chilwell, Maguire, Mane, VVD, Lallana and others I'm sure, all picked up for a fraction of what they then sold them for.

It's unfortunate but its the modern game. I'd say it's highly unlikely that Awoniyi will spend his entire 5 year contract here. If he does well he's at an age where we could command £50m+ at which point we then hopefully go out and buy the next big thing for £15/20m etc and the cycle just goes on and all the time the club is getting richer and richer whilst the product on the pitch stays at a similar level. Has to be carefully managed though as there's a fine line between developing players and accepting they'll move on and simply being a selling club.

You get fairly compensated in the Prem & get full value. Then it is up to you to recruit again.

A good season from Taiwo will see us triple the £17m we spent on him easily - and that's a LOT of money.

Every team apart from Man City & Liverpool has somebody ahead of them in the food chain. 10 years ago it was Barcelona & Real Madrid.
