Think this all amplifies why I can't be bothered to read or watch pundits and the media pontificating on these subjects.

They all have an agenda anyway and, additionally, think they know what it's all about and the rest of us are mugs who need guiding.

Didn't he call Mick McCarthy an English c--t or something like that?
To quote:

„Mick, you're a liar … you're a f***ing wanker. I didn't rate you as a player, I don't rate you as a manager, and I don't rate you as a person. You're a f***ing wanker and you can stick your World Cup up your arse. The only reason I have any dealings with you is that somehow you are the manager of my country! You can stick it up your bollocks!“

Not that I'm defending Keane but this is a bit of a myth

The tackle was on Haaland's right knee but ultimately it was the pre-existing injury to his left knee that caused him to retire; Haaland actually played the rest of that game against Man U and a few afterwards

Although of course the incident as a whole probably contributed to his decision to retire

possibly

But it is also possible that the strain of a bad tackle on his right knee caused a worsening in the pre-existing condition in the left as well.

Neither Keane nor Haaland were massive 6' plus 15 stone beasts but the force of a strong tackle is still quite significant especially with a tough tackler like Keane.

And at the point of it going into his right knee it would have put the strain of his body presumably unprepared onto the left.

Let's also not forget players can play on with bad injuries in sports in general, Cohen walked off with an ACL, Andy Murray played on with his ankle the other week, Psycho even tried to play on with a broken leg, the pain can sometimes be delayed also due to adrenaline.

If it's been officially cited that the tackle by Keane effectively ended Haaland's career, as opposed to bravado in biographies and fan/media speculation, then it would presumably have had to go through both clubs' insurance and this would probably have needed some form of citation or proof

Thought today’s referee was decent. Didn’t have a massive impact on the game and I don’t remember him booking anyone.
Was a bit pissed off with the stoppage for Grealiish and him allowing them a back pass into the keeper’s arms though

My dad remarked on there being no bookings.

Other than the 'ironic' cheering when he returned the ball to Sels after the Grealish bit, I never noticed him, and, to be honest, thats the sign of a decent refereeing performance.

The only question I have about the officiating today is who was wrong - the officials in the ManU game yesterday or our today - because the same play with a keeper wiping out an opponent occurred without touching the ball. One was given by VAR review, one was given as a foul on the offensive player. Strange to me.

Personally on this I felt both Boly and ederson were moving towards the ball and there was a natural coming together. Maybe the keeper came a bit further but it was inconclusive and keepers do tend to get a bit of extra protection. For me it was ridiculous it was given as a foul against Boly but didn’t mean it was a penalty either.

Yesterday and Onana v wolves he came flying out, the Burnley player didn’t move towards him at all, he was just cleaned out off the ball.

Same opinion here. I'd be furious if that was given as a penalty against us but it shouldn't have been a free kick either.

I thought it was pretty much the only mistake he made all game and although the bar isn't very high at all he was easily the best ref we've had all season. Good to see him allow the game to flow. I'd happily have him refereeing more games for us.

Agree on all accounts.

Except when he gave Grealish fouls. Because Grealish is a cheat. ;)

Grealish did the same thing when he was playing for Villa at our place.

Got tackled, and stopped down as we went on the attack. Play stopped. Not sure why refs are still falling for it.

Ref was good. Boly did foul Ederson, imho. But it certainly was not malicious. Grealish is a brave lad and he takes a lot of abuse out there. He gets a lot of calls because he is willing to sacrifice himself to earn fouls. He gets a bit of extra abuse because he is a chick magnet. But he's a tough player and I have much respect.

Agreed. If anything Boly was the one who was a bit late on Ederson so although I don't think it was worthy of a free kick for Man City I can see why the ref gave it. Absolutely zero chance it was a penalty for us.

Did Boly need to go down when he headed the KDB free kick away? Who knows? But it helped us out.

They all do it, unfortunately.

Taylor and Attwell in charge of the Dortmund semi final this week. Incompetence rewarded once more.
If they pull the same sort of crap they did towards Forest, they’ll never get out of Germany alive.

I noticed the Taylor/Attwell duo again and thought that they must have some sort of incompetence pact going, not to be split up in case someone notices how duff they are.

Incompetency as recognized by UEFA, and not the PGMOL , nor the FA. Attwell, I understand your ire. But Taylor is an excellent referee. A few tough games here and there in the English Premier League do not denigrate all the well refereed games he has done over the years. Attwell is there because they have been partnered together throughout the season during UEFA competitions. So, unless you believe Taylor has some particular level of sway with UEFA (and given UEFA's attitude towards England, in general, I would question how this attitude develops in the first place) then the basis of any of you questioning his appointment to this game is extraordinarily tenuous. Taylor is an excellent referee, full stop.

Strangely - I think Grealish is the only player who has got worse playing under Pep.
I used to think he was a great player - given the freedom to roam around the pitch causing mayhem. Playing under pep - he has become more disciplined, very rarely takes on players - always looking to turn inside and taking the easy option of the pass.
Obviously a very good player - but not as good as he should be.
