First Team Squad
Just seen on sky ticker thingy this is about done, 2 year contract. Solid back up to neck, at the rate the squads picking up yellows we are going to need the depth!

I tend to think this is a shrewd one as competition for Williams, who I like a lot from what I've seen so far. He's got more bookings than assists but has low numbers for dismissals so I don't really understand the 'red waiting to happen' thing.

Career numbers for anyone who cares:

P351 G21 A47 Y57 R4 (3 for second yellow, 1 straight)

Makes sense in terms of partnership with Willy Boly… both play for Ivory Coast at the back. Sorry if this has already been mentioned!

I am not Aurier’s biggest fan at all - his mental attributes and discipline have stopped him from being a truly top player.

That said, as competition/backup you have to think a former PSG and Spurs player on a free is a decent signing. He’s mobile and on his day world class.

Main concern for me is he is one of very few we have signed / targeted who are on a downward trajectory

I know what you mean, in terms of your reservations, but super Cooper will weave his magic, I’m sure. I’m impressed with the way the recruitment team are putting the team together, so that they are up and running ASAP with their partnerships on the pitch. Toff/O’Brian, Awoniyi/Dennis and now Big Willy/Serge.

Yay / Meh

I know best, don't give a f*** what Steve Cooper & Dane Murphy think especially with their piss poor record of successful transfers
Even the best make the odd duff transfer, we had a few last season that didn't work out after all (despite all the brilliant work Murphy and co did in the transfer market).

If we all just agreed with everything the club did, there wouldn't be much point in this forum really. Its all just opinions at the end of the day.

Personally I don't rate this signing (or Boly for that matter), though I am happy to be proven wrong. I doubt we'll see much of him unless Williams gets injured or suspended anyway.

This is one of those Grabban type signings for me.

A lot of people on the outside telling us how bad the player is as a character. But at the same time they're captain material.

It's up to Aurier and Cooper to prove everyone wrong.

I’d argue there wouldn’t be a need for a professional recruitment team with a very solid track record, let alone a forum…we’d all be signing players

Nicklas Bendtner had played in the Bundesliga and Champions League the season before signing for Forest. I wouldn't say playing in La Liga and the Champions League last season really tells us much about whether or not Aurier would be a decent signing for Forest.

I'm always skeptical of these kinds of signings. Aging players on the way down, big wages, supposed attitude problems... these sort of signings rarely seem to work out for us.
