Sean O'Driscoll was a 'cultural' fit.

Our back four yesterday was far from first choice though.

Halford and Ayala would have been in there, had they been fit.

-------------I agree he was an appointment that was popular and that will give him more time however i dont agree that we stayed up just because we got O'Driscoll dont get me wrong Cotterill was an awful appointment an awful manager but he kept us up with the help of O'Drscoll it wasnt all SOD.
----------------------Also i don't like us to think 'we are forest, we have a history of playing like barcelona' thats the forest way, we have got to be careful with this how much did you hear west ham fans moan that Allardyce didnt play the West Ham way when were either us or West Ham playing great carpet football, its a bit arrogant to say we are Forest we always play great football and on that point we have played some terrible games this year and we are not posession hoggers and great passers however its been entertaining and SOD is doing a great job i hope he continues the way he is and hell get all the time in the world!!!!!! COYR!!!!!!

This is my first post. I only registered to respond to this.

Cotterill had nothing to do with our revival. We were down under him and only SODs influence kept us up. He suggested the new signings, he got us actually playing some football, Cotterill did nothing. We'd be playing Notts without SOD.

On my opinion - he has made poor choices when bringing in defenders. I think they are no better than last year possibly worse

In my opinion he doesnt start his best team and then brings on the better players when we are losing to chase the game

Mid table this year at best as derby leeds and millwall have shown how good we really are

Are you a troll? I really really hope so.

What part of my post do you disagree with?

Our manager has been backed to the hilt yet yesterday showed the defence to be what it is - substandard

Maybe we need a new defensive coach or a couple of younger lower league players. Surely the scouts could look abroad?

I dont think the new owners will settle for a low level championship finish after the backing they have given

SO'D has said a few times a club like Forest should be challenging near the top of the league. Not that we're in the middle of a relegation battle though.

"Low level Championship finish"

We are 8th, relax.

Only the sixth best defence in the division despite buying an entire new backline in the summer?!?!?!

All of the armchair managers are right, our defence is pathetic.

All managers take note

"The manager frequently refers to his belief that his role is to implement a way of doing things; an ethos that gets Forest moving in the right direction, regardless of how long he might be around to oversee that progression.
And he believes the development squad must be at the heart of those ideals, as Forest try to put together an infrastructure that can support the club if they do make the big step back up into the Premier League.
"It is not dependent on who the manager is and what the first team results might be – it should be part of the DNA at a football club, a development group," said O'Driscoll."

Think people need to remember how many defenders we have three months ago.

In terms of players, I think all of them (apart from Ward who's not had time) have shown themselves as capable Championship players who should be in top six if not higher.

Halford at £250k was a steal. Collins at £500k gives us a really composed option and a leader. Harding is a fine left back for where we and looks a wee bit expensive only because the previous two guys were dirt cheap.

Ayala, in my opinion, will only get better. Needs some game time but his anticipation and position make him the perfect partner for someone like Collins. Hutchinson is probably the best defender in this league, so if we can get him fit then that's a huge bonus.

Moloney is more than good enough for backup and we have an up and coming Lascelles.

You look at our defence as individuals and you see solid players there. Yesterday we looked a little bit susceptible at the back for the first time in a while and it's brought the doom merchants out, but they're quicker to criticise than they are to praise.

Our defence still needs time to settle, a totally new back four will take more than 14 games to properly work as a unit, but the signs have, aside from Saturday, been good. Let's not forget it was a new back four again on Saturday. How many different back fours have we now had this season?

Moloney, Ayala, Collins, Harding
Hutchinson, Ayala, Collins, Harding
Halford, Ayala, Collins, Harding
Moloney, Halford, Collins, Harding
Moloney, Ward, Collins, Harding

5 back fours in 14 games. No wonder we don't look solid every single game, but we'll get there.

harding is hardly a fine left back, he has improved from where he was at but compared to even jim brennan he is probably adequate but barely. We have been spoiled by the excellence of shorey and bertrand in recent times

I just think our defence is a mid-table one - it has it's strengths but it is vulnerable at times. A bit more time gelling and 1 quality addition (be that new CB, a new LB or whoever) would see us really push on IMO.

After a bit longer together their weaknesses could well be covered though, lord knows McKenna, Shorey & co made Chambers look competent.

All of the best defences are built around solid CB pairings - Jagielka/Distin, Huth/Shawcross etc. You could say that Wilson/Morgan and Morgan/Chambers had good relationships. At the minute Collins doesn't know who he's going to be playing with each week. The sooner we sort this out the better.

I think what has been tough has been the wild mood swings our club has gone through this season. And we probably knew they were going to come, given the reconstructed status of our club. New manager, more new players than returnees. And while 8th place is a bit of a false place, given a few points less where we'd be, it's still ok, and not that far from the top.

If any club needs to have patience with anyone, it's this one. Owners and supporters.

I expected we'd be shown to have a few soft areas as the season has progressed. Don't think these things can't be addressed in January. And, in addition, there has been plenty of time now to scout this player or that player, and make a better assessment of the best fit. I would expect we will buy one or two in January, maybe bring in another two month loan. If we get teh right guys, that would correct some issues. Which, quite frankly, may iron some of themselves out by January first.

I think it key we not get too excited if we don't get anything out of our next two games.

It's the sixth best defence in the league. In what way is that substandard?

Also, that was a makeshift defence. Half of it made up of reserves and emergency loans.

We've also not had anywhere near as much backing as you'd think.

To have a defence rated as the sixth best in the league when three months ago we didn't have any defenders at all is impressive.
Halford is always so up for it, we really missed him on Saturday. Hutch was also a great loss.
It will come good again. I hope its tomorrow as they are showing real form and we aren't.

To win 4-1 one weekend and lose 4-1 the next sums up our season so far. Inconsistent as you would expect from a club with new owners, a new manager and twelve new players.
I'm happy with the progress so far.
Many more positives than negatives.
