Its really not that difficult to grasp. There will always be an argument as to whether heart & desire wins over technical ability. That argument never goes away whilst Ryan Yates occupies such a key position in a team that's struggled like f*** for a long time. one good season in the championship doesnt feel like a huge amount to show for it.I will never understand why he receives so much criticism from some fans - it’s like they have to stick to their narrative of bashing him all the time, such a bizarre take.

Played well last night though & your clearly helping Yates when you pair him with some dynamism, which Danillo showed last night. A relatively minor point, but his presence in & around the 18yd box has become largely pointless as he converts nothing.
Worth his place currently, no doubt.
He doesn't get enough credit for his footballing brain. It'd be easy for a player to get carried away performing his, er, 'agricultural' role in the team, but it never feels like he's at risk of being sent off. The opposite is true - he's out there consistently winning fouls in the Best League In The World™ like a puppet master pulling the strings. In the Nuno era, Yates picked more than any other MF.
Yet another manager choosing his deficiency over other players.
One coach having that blind spot, I would get. Every coach he plays for falling under his spell, he must have something?
Whilst not getting us very far.and every Forest manager he's worked under has recognised that that.
What's the bar? He got us promoted, secured out status last year and hopefully will this.Whilst not getting us very far.
The year we were promoted was the first (arguably the second) year in which he became a starter for practically every game, so I'm not sure what you mean there.Whilst not getting us very far.
Indeed. If you look back over the posts in Sangare's thread, he was supposed to be the missing piece that would allow our midfield to control games and allow us to play a more possession based game. For me in an ideal world Sangare is your Yates upgrade, but he hasn't been. One day perhaps? I'd back Yates in that fight, but suspect another might get added.
I agree, and while I think technically he has improved I'll also add that every year of his career a similar thing has been said, so fully expect him to step up again.Probably has the lowest ceiling of our midfielders and at times can clearly look out of his depth, he can take an extra touch or an extra split second to do something which you just don't get at this level.
Fair play to him for making the absolute most of his ability though, if the likes of Marlon King, Abdoun, Carvalho, Ishmael Miller plus many many more had even a smidgen of Yates' drive and will to get better over the years perhaps we'd have established ourselves in the prem long ago.
He's certainly good to have in the squad but if you fast forward 12 months from now and we're still a Premier League club with Ryan Yates starting every game in midfield then we could be in for another long struggle.
Long may he continue to make his detractors look like fools.I agree, and while I think technically he has improved I'll also add that every year of his career a similar thing has been said, so fully expect him to step up again.
Depends how you define stepping up I suppose. In pure numbers he's not scored since promotion and has 3 assists in that time. I understand his game isn't necessarily about goal contributions but prior to that in the Championship he was chipping in with a decent number of goals.I agree, and while I think technically he has improved I'll also add that every year of his career a similar thing has been said, so fully expect him to step up again.
Remind me which league we got into for the first time in 23 years the other season?Whilst not getting us very far.
What I mean is that he'll hit those numbers and prove us wrong. (In that I agree with your post that we need better but can also see a world where he becomes that)Depends how you define stepping up I suppose. Being picked in the Premier League and be able to consistently play well in the Premier League are two very different things.
