Richmond Mamah Laryea

We're back to looking at our previous players with rose coloured glasses. Forget him.

Young players, fit, with talent and years ahead of them. That's why we have a transfer team (Goops) to buy our players.

The problem with Laryea was that he had 0 positional awareness when tasked with defending, not something that's likely to change given his age. Wouldn't be against him as backup if we were using wingbacks in the 2nd division but that's about as far as i'd go
...but it still only MLS.
Even the championship is a much tougher standard.
and Premiership is a step change above that.
Is richie really up to either of those levels?

I think these are both valid counter points. MLS is a woeful league. Watching Lorenzo Insigne waltz around for TFC is quite funny. I'm sure their smarter supporters think otherwise. His defensive play has looked a bit better recently but against stronger opponents it's a tough one to gauge. He can play both flanks which is a positive. If we can down he'd be ok, I think. If we stay up we should sell.

Just watched our debacle against Guadeloupe---man do we (Canada) have problems. On the bright side, Laryea played well for us again, and Cooper has to give him a shot in pre season training. Unless Neco's game has upped a full notch in the off season, I think Richie is a better player right now. He deserves a chance to make our 25 man squad, imho.

If he's anywhere near our 25 man squad we're in serious trouble. Cooper barely trusted him in the Championship. Cooper didn't trust him when we had no players. Laryea having a good game against Guadeloupe, is like having a good game against Chesterfield (possibly I'm being unfair on Chesterfield), it proves absolutely nothing. Neco is a far, far better player who was just starting to play well before Brennan broke his face. Layrea will be moved on or bomb-squadded.

There is no way Laryea is a better player than Neco.

Okay Neco is raw, but you can see the clear ability there. There is different levels for me, Neco would look like Alexander Arnold at the level Laryea plays at.
Agreed. Laryea isn't even proven at Championship level; a level which Neco had already done well at.

I still think Neco will come good if we play three at the back. Some very encouraging signs prior to his injury IMO.

Agree about Laryea. I don't think he's in any of our future plans going forward, so we may as well sell. The fact he wasn't playing for us regularly in the championship and then expecting him to contribute in the PL is just not realistic at all.

Neco came into his own later on before his injury, which gives me hope he still has something to prove. Laryea hasn't done anything to suggest he would do well in the PL.

Neco is 22 years old with 40 odd Premier League Appearances already under his belt.
Richmond is 28 years old and the majority of his 160 odd Professional appearances have been in the MLS.

Those cold hard facts mean that, even if you believe they're relatively close in terms of ability, you would bet on Neco's experience and potential to improve with further experience.

The CSA has been a massive joke for decades. Tomas Radzinski had a huge spat with them at one point and refused to show up for international duty. As our players used to be League One level they had close to zero power to take a stand, so to speak. But now we suddenly have bona fide stars in our lineup and the relative anonymity these f***ing clowns had to be f***ing clowns is starting to dissipate. As an example, they refuse to open their books on "operating expenses" and where the money actually goes. It doesn't take a genius to figure out this type of ages old grift. Both our men and women have gone on strike in the past year. Our old president, some f*** named Nick Bontis, resigned recently after laying into our men's team when they went on strike. Just another shameless huckster in a long line of shameless hucksters. Hopefully the mess can finally be cleaned up in the coming months.

I'm not saying Laryea is world class. But a few decent performances aside (near season end) , Neco was shit much of last season. Richie did well at the World Cup too, one of our few bright lights. Ditto our recent loss to the USA---he was one of our best players. Again, I am not saying to hand him a roster spot. But he deserves a legitimate shot to win a spot. That is all I stated. Nothing more, nothing less.

He had his shot in the champ - he won't get one at the level above.

He never had a shot. He came off of the bench twice, as I recall, and didn't look out of place.
One of those times he was out of position everytime we got possession and no one passed to him.

That was the marker for me. I'm not usually one to rush to judgement either.
