The amount of excuses made for this fella is unreal :ROFLMAO: soon it will be the grass is too wet in England or the ball is too round.

Enjoy Bologna Remo.

Quite.

Meanwhile homegrown lad who plays in the same position and is objectively better in every single department: passing, tackling, shooting, heading, stamina yada yada, still hasa number of people questioning whether he's good enough.

Remo might be a decent player, but he's never shown it here. It tells you everything you need to know we looked our best and got our best return of points when he was benched and our midfield suddenly looked far more dynamic.

I'm sure he's a decent guy and don't get me wrong he tried, but aside from Dennis and the obvious bombsquaded players this is someone who Forest aren't going to miss.

Yates is a better passer of the ball than Freuler. He progresses it faster, into more dangerous areas, with a retention rate that is probably reasonably similar to Freulers.

Freuler is just an expensive Simon Gillett. That's why he is leaving the club and Yates is likely to start the majority of games he's available for.

Yates is the worst header of the ball in the league. Well, not quite, but he's fantastic at getting on the end of crosses, woeful at directing the ball in the right direction.

Fair, I meant winning the header rather than direction!

Whatever peoples opinions are on either player, I don't think anyone can argue that Yates is far more suited to how we play than Freuler, and offered a lot more than Freuler did last year.

It's in everyone's best interests (including the player himself) that Freuler moves on this summer. Whatever the reasons it just isn't working for him here.

All this is fair comment, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record, we need to be pretty sure we're getting someone else in before we let him go, especially if O'Brien is leaving as well, or we'll end up short in central midfield very easily.

In that circumstance we would have: Mangala, Yates, Danilo (starting most matches at the moment)
Kouyate (sometimes injured, to put it politely)

then ????

I think we need an addition in midfield regardless of Freuler or LOB leaving IMO. Given the links over the summer, it seems to be our main priority.

I think the style of play probably doesn’t suit Freuler here.

I’d also imagine prime Busquets would probably look ropey playing in a team that isn’t technically as good and doesn’t see much of the ball.

Sticking Freuler in Arsenals midfield he’d suddenly look much more accomplished.

Yates fits us better than he does at the moment.

I'm not sure that the stats quite show that Yates is 'objectively better' in all of those areas. I'll let you take a look yourself (it's a bit of a mixed bag) https://fbref.com/en/squads/e4a775cb/2022-2023/Nottingham-Forest-Stats

I think people also gloss over January when Freuler was really, really good as we played a little more progressively and we had our other strong run. Then Shelvey arrived and the balance was lost again.

Ultimately, Freuler didnt fit how we ended up playing last year. He needs to play in a team with a decent amount of possession and further up the pitch. He absolutely did do a solid job all year, though and did what was asked of him.

Yates is what we need right now, Freuler isn't.

That doesn't mean that Yates is a better player then Freuler. If he was we'd be inundated with enquiries for him. You don't get that many caps for Switzerland by being shit, which is what many on here have claimed.

What's the point of loaning out a 31 year old with an option to buy? It should be mandatory or no deal, Noel.
I imagine that he's on a good wedge, Champions League team captain, international and at peak age. For FFP purposes we're probably just happy to get the wage off the books, hopefully with a decent loan fee too.
