Remo Marco Freuler + Trains thread

It's unbelievable the flak he takes on here.

I agree.

He's not flashy and not homegrown so was an easy target.

He was a key part of the team that was doing alright, and exceptionally well in January. Then Shelvey came in and we lost all balance.

Danilo was then a clear upgrade once settled and allowed us to play in a different manner.

Personally I think if we added a Sangare type, Freuler would be a fantastic option alongside. Doing the near and tidy stuff, keeping things ticking, and filling in when players are out of position.

Appreciate why he would want to leave for Juve though and certainly wouldn't want to stop him.

I hope Forest can land Sangare and that allows Cooper to play 3 central midfielders (Sangare, Danilo and MGW) as opposed to four.

Some folk still don't think Yates is first name on the team sheet...

I don't think Yates starts over any of those three and Cooper needs a squad with Elanga - Awoyini - Johnson across the front to be competitive, IMO. We chuck too many central midfielders on the pitch and become unbalanced, IMO. Sangare would be an improvement over Yates - the battle is Yates vs Danilo (which is tight) and I think Danilo's athleticism would win out.

Write Yates off at your peril is all I'll say to that.

Didn't realize I was writing him off but ok. Yates has a place in this squad for sure - is there anything specifically you disagree with in what I said or are we sticking with cliches?

I don't think Yates is behind either MGW or Danilo.

As long as he's available there will be a role for Yates in the starting 11.

The fact it's Yates v Danilo for one seeing as both played together last season, the fact that Yates has consistently improved, the fact that though Yates has played further up the field in pre season doesn't change that this is due to circumstances of the squad currently rather than an expectation of where he will play this season.
You also seem to expect Forest to adopt a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system by your assertion we will play Elanga, Awonyi and Johnson up top which would mean we either play 2 in the middle which went so well for us last season or we play MGW in midfield which we didn't do once last season and in pre season we've still when possible kept the 3 at the back system.

Pick one.

Where is MGW playing? CF? I'm honestly not clear. This is where I get really confused with what Cooper is trying to accomplish - positionally he seems to put players in positions that aren't ideal (at least on paper). I would love to see him adopt a more balanced approach (which I think Sangare could help with, especially if we get another good CB). Ideally we'd play 3 at the back - perhaps a 3-5-2.

We are not close to where we need to be. Anyway, back to Freuler - I hope we're able to move him to Juve for a price that at worst offsets his expense so we can free up space in the squad. He just didn't work out through no fault of his

If Sangare signed it would surely be him and Danilo plus one other. Possibly Yates in games we're expecting to chase a lot of ball and Mangala in games where we should dictate play more.

For me it would be Yates over Mangala every day of the week.

However I havent seen anything of Sangare so who knows!

100%, the disrespect this guy gets is ridiculous. And it's probably telling that it's Juve that he could potentially be going too.
Yes, telling that he's suited to a lower paced league.

This guy came with a decent pedigree & has produced absolutely nothing. Flatlined throughout with very little tangible effort to compensate.

Extolling the virtues of players achievements at other clubs aren't much use to us, he's been shit here.

With all that said, the way this windows progressing, I wouldnt be surprised to see him line up this season, irrespective of the fact he's carried on in pre season where he left off last season.

If anybody has watched Juve recently they’d know playing for them doesn’t even mean as much as it did even 5 years ago.

Juve are probably selling Vlahovic, a young talented striker and replacing him with a fat Lukaku which shows you how well Juve are doing in the transfer market currently.

Freuler would suit a game of walking football, that’s about his pace.
