Remo Marco Freuler + Trains thread

Try A Little Tenderness
Since Jack Colback moved on and Shelvey deemed surplus to requirements, it's manifestly obvious that we're painfully short in terms of central-midfield options, which makes me doubt that Steve would be willing to sanction this until a genuine replacement is recruited. Even then (unless he's prepared to offer Lewis O'Brien a place in the 25), further cover is required, as we're only left with Danilo, Kouyate, Mangala and Yates.

Sangaré’s release clause is 37m euros.

Ten million euros for Freuler would go a good way towards that, and his salary (and Shelvey’s) would more than cover Sangare’s wage.

Get it done, f*** a loan.

I’d be happy with:

DM: Sangare, Kouayate
LCM: Danilo, LOB
RCM: Mangala, Yates
AM: MGW, Scarpa

Freuler, Shelvey and Colback out and one top class signing in. Upgrade.

If money is even tighter, O’Brien has value and could be replaced with a good loan.

Just keep him fit and watch us fly.

I'd be happy with that too but LOB hasn't been anywhere near the squad for pre season games so you've got to think he's going to leave.

I don't necessarily think we need a replacement for him if he does go. Five central midfielders (Sangare, Kouyate, Yates, Mangala, Danilo) is enough considering the players we have are quite flexible in where they play: Mangala can play DM or either side of CM, MGW could drop into a CM role etc.

Its amusing going straight from the Johnson thread where most say Brentford fans are entitled, straight to this thread where people are slating a guy who started 24 games for us and helped us survive in a season where logically we should have been relegated easily

It's funny how some players like surridge get hero like tributes after 18 months and just 6 starts, and others who contributed greatly to forest having their best finish in football in 24 years get so much crap written about them

Should said posters change their opinion of him to make you happy?

100%, the disrespect this guy gets is ridiculous. And it's probably telling that it's Juve that he could potentially be going too.

I don't think he's a bad player. A quick look at his career suggests that he clearly isn't. I'm just not convinced he's suited to the Premier League.
This. Cooper's style is about quick transitions and athleticism. Freuler actually slows the game down which makes me question the thinking behind the recruitment in the first place.

It's not that he's shit, he's just not a good fit for how we want to play.

Yep agree with that. Good player, bad fit for Coopers tactical approach and more than likely the general nature of play in the PL.
If Freuler was playing as a lone holding midfielder, like Ben Watson did under Lamouchi, Freuler would be the perfect fit. That's why his nickname is the conductor.

But the way Cooper usually lines up with 3 box-to-box players in midfield (Mangala, Yates and Danilo generally) means that when that's the case, if Freuler starts he doesn't quite have enough pace to keep up with the game, so the game passes him by and you see players just running past him for fun.

A bit like Ben Watson before Lamouchi arrived.

I don't care if people don't rate him, I'm just saying comments like f*** him off and saying he's shit are unnecessary and honestly just not true

Hate to break it to people but we aren't some low level championship side anymore and even the worst players in our squad aren't "shit" just because they didn't tear up the most competitive league in the world

Fans demand complete loyalty from any half decent player but any who they don't like for any reason they talk about like that, wonder why these guys just go for money

Forest fans "players should want to sign for us due to our amazing fans"

Other forest fans "this guy who played 28 games as we had best season in 24 years in hardest league in the world and who never seemed to have any issues and no rumours or discipline issues should f*** off, he's useless, I'd drive him to airport myself!"

A guy that is also 3rd captain behind Worrall & Yates.

Freuler held a lot of shit together for us, especially during our great run in January.

He covered a lot of the gaps left by *the amazing international standard Ryan Yates and did reasonably well given we had few attacking outlets and defended on our 6 yard line.

He's not ideally suited to a Cooper team. But he's a very good footballer and was a model pro

I think how we ended up playing and how we intended to play are two different things - Cooper's been learning on the job.

I hope Forest can land Sangare and that allows Cooper to play 3 central midfielders (Sangare, Danilo and MGW) as opposed to four.

It's unbelievable the flak he takes on here.
