GAFF LAD. "Open your knees and feel the breeze"
I don’t give a shite… I won’t be supporting the World Cup.
I don’t watch friendlies or qualifiers any more but I still get excited about a couple of weeks’ summer footy every two years. This WC will be “wrong” for a whole host of reasons, but I’ve still got the England games marked in the diary, and will try and watch as many other games as I can.I shall not be able to stop myself watching some of the WC but won't see many games in their entirety. I switch off pretty early in most games, too much tikka-takka these days. You don't get the all-out action that you used to see.
To me the objections surrounding the WC are not going to be changed by me not watching. If I stopped watching or paying attention to any event that had connections with countries or organisations infringing human rights etc, I'd probably be living like a hermit for the rest of my days. According to some, even the slavery aspects of our past make us an undesirable nation.
Cheer up fella, England always strive to disappointUSA looking legit like the worst team in their group, im visibly sick.
Same. I don't even consider it a proper World Cup personally, more of a micky mouse winter tournament funded by corruption and the blood of dead slaves.I don’t give a shite… I won’t be supporting the World Cup.
Subtle, but effective. I like it.
It's good, but if they feel that strongly about it don't take part and accept the consequences. Don't think they'll be missing much if they stay at home.
As a fellow IT Security pro, I’m sure you can probably think of at least 5 ways of defeating it as wellBruce Schneier, who is something of a legend to those of us who work in IT Security, shares a disturbing piece which says Qatar will force smartphone users attending the World Cup to install two apps on their phones when they arrive in the country - apps which apparently requests rights far in excess of what they actually need to work:
This sort of monitoring spyware has no place in any civilised country. Oh. Wait.
Yeah… about that.As a fellow IT Security pro, I’m sure you can probably think of at least 5 ways of defeating it as well
As posted elsewhere, last week, I had some colleagues over from Brazil to visit. The more and more I'm thinking about it, the more I think Brazil are going to win this World Cup. They're well overdue.
They have a great record when it comes to World Cups held outside of Europe. Winning in Chile '62, Mexico '70, USA '94, South Korea/Japan 2002 (the last time they won the World Cup)
Amazingly, they've only ever won 1 World Cup held in Europe. Sweden '58.
Adding to that, their attacking options are just ridiculous. Gabriel Jesus, Neymar, Richarlison, Rodrygo, Antony, Raphinha, Vinicius Junior, Firmino, Coutinho, Paqueta.
Alisson and Ederson are probably the best goalkeepers in the world.
Bruno Guimaraes is outstanding in midfield.
They have lost 1 competitive game in 4 years.
Yeah, I'm going for Brazil.
