Qatar s̶u̶m̶m̶e̶r winter world cup 2022

I wouldn't be that opposed to a winter world cup if there was prior agreement. What bothers me is changing the goal posts after the bid and the whiff of corruption that surrounds this. The real loses here are Australia who should have won and would have put on a brilliant world cup in an emerging market. Apparently that wasn't enough.

The awarding of this World Cup was as bent as a seven-pound note.

All of the Stadia (most of which don't exist yet) are around the city of Losail, which is smaller than Birmingham in terms of area.

It's hardly going to develop the game in Qatar, but it will no doubt enrich FIFA to the tune of a few more tax-free billions.

It's a travesty for Australia; as was proved with the Sydney Olympics they can put on an event and they have most of the stadiums already in place (and crucially, the surrounding infrastructure).

Although I hate the way it's come about, a winter World Cup may produce some good football - players will be in their prime rather than at the end of a long season.

I don't have a problem with a winter World Cup per se, but how can it be right that they bid for it on the basis that it's held in the summer, then completely alter things so fundamentally?

Stinks to high heaven.

Yes, and at the end of season they'll be completely jaded, Champions League final would be a disaster (or any other final that would be played at the end of the season). That would also cause the season to end in July (?). What about next season? Should it start in August then? Or move it to September and then make clubs play matches every three-four days for at least a month or two?

Lets move Wimbledon, the Olympics, the masters and the fa cup final to the middle of winter, what a bunch of arseholes, lining their pockets is all that this is about, football is a joke with these clowns running it.

Could probably see alot more championship players in the teams as I doubt many of the high flying prem teams will want their top players jetting off mid season

By then that won't really be an issue for England anyway...

I think European leagues should refuse to move the fixtures and carry on playing like when there is an African Cup of Nations. Certainly shake things up a bit. I just don't see how things can be moved around. It would affect at the least the 2 seasons before and after as an absolute minimum.

Everybody recognises Australia as a sporting nation and they would have put on a great tournament with a fantastic atmosphere. The one in Qatar will just be so sterile.

The bid was to host a summer World Cup, Qatar entered the bid knowing this, FIFA awarded the World Cup knowing the summer weather in Qatar, so a summer World Cup should take place in Qatar. In 2022, when people moan about the weather being too hot to play decent football, and there being no atmosphere in the grounds or even country, then they should be pointed in the direction of the decision makers who took it to Qatar, and ask them 'why?'.

I'd consider an awful World Cup to be a small price to pay to expose the massive level of arrogance, greed, corruption and contempt for football supporters within FIFA. And maybe if it's too hot to play decent football, England might have more chance of winning the bloody thing.

be good to see an England team made up of champ and league one players I reckon - so much less ego than the Rooney's of this world and mega hungry to prove themselves on the world's stage

Just looking at the natinal information on Qatar apparently of its population of 1.9M people only 15% are Quatari nationals. If they had an equivalent of migration watch it would go into meltdown....

But they'll be crap.

If Wigan can win the FA Cup then I'd say anything's possible

Wouldn't just be England though would it - can't see Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG etc letting their top stars go either so I reckon it would be far more equal than first imagined

Apparently they want to hold it in the January 2022,but it clashes with the Winter Olympics,so now they want to hold it in the November 2022,what a balls up,Australia are thinking of suing for 25million.

Easy solution would be for the Olympic association to take a lead from FIFA and whore their competition out to the highest bidder and sod the climate.

Are there any other countries apart from ourselves and Australia kicking up a fuss about this? I haven't looked that extensively but nobody else seems to be that bothered. I know we're mostly bitter about Russia getting 2018 over us, but are others that concerned over FIFA's blatant corruption?

We'll still end up losing to Qatar.

No; England will lose in the final to Bongo-Bongo Land, who will celebrate by dancing around the stadium with an effigy of the severed head of Nigel Farage on a stick.

If they do move it i personally hope a)nobody goes there, the stadiums are empty and it is a massive flop as a sporting spectacle b)No of the top clubs allow their best players to go, make up some randoms illness like cat flu.

The world cup is going to two countries which don't either deserve or can facilitate a world cup. Russia has crap infrastructure, homophobic and racist. Qatar have nothing, its just some sand in a very big desert with big oil pumps.

Euro 2020 is going to be a weird one with different cities around Europe hosting matches,34 cities have applied and I heard London won't be getting the final,I think the stadiums have to have a certain capacity to be chosen, sounds like another bag of shit to me.
