Q&A with Chairman Nicholas Randall, QC

Try A Little Tenderness
Bit like the Megan and Harry interview, I'm more inclined to think the truth lies in the middle.

So the smooth barrister Randall gives the best view possible of the Forest situation and Taylor wants a few eye-catching points to lead his article.

Taylor didn't even put his claims in a published article Richard, he used a series of rambling Tweets.

I'm not a subscriber to The Athletic either, so I have to rely on someone who is to kindly convey what Taylor published yesterday.

His Twitter rant was essentially targeted at Vrentzos, and so from the all-too-brief snippet of the opening paragraph of this new article the early impression is that he's carrying it on?

Not just about Vrentos, he essentially states that the Q and A was just a nice chit chat and there were no uncomfortable questions asked and was too safe.

He stated that he wanted questions asked about Modesto (our head of recruitment) working for both us and Oly, as if he finds a great player who does he send them to us or them? He wanted questions asking about Mendes and the "failed experiment", questions asked about the bomb squad and the millions lost in wages including the fact that the PFA were called in due to their treatment and also what is Louis Ducruets role.

He also believes that Randal may be the fall guy.

The whole article is quite good, he doesn't just slate the club he admits that the non footballing side of the club is generally ran well, however they have made promises that they have never full filled such as the miracle men gates and the stadium (that has gone very quiet). If you can get a cheap subscription it's worth it (I pay £1 every month).

He also states in his tweets below the article that he's been trying for 4 years to get an interview with someone at the club yet can't as they only want positive things written about them and do not want to answer uncomfortable questions.

Cheers Gamble.

I think perhaps Danny ought to let it go. I doubt there's a football club in the country that would allow the kind of warts-and-all, in-depth scrutiny - and subsequent negative media coverage - that he's demanding.

I've not read the article, but it has been clear for some time that Taylor is out for blood as regards Forest-and maybe he's right, perhaps our owners and his Lieutenants are the devil incarnate.
....But given that starting point its hardly surprising that they won't give him an interview. That, in itself isn't a story and Dan Taylor is a big fish in football journalism so perhaps he should be looking elsewhere for material to write about.

Even if Taylor's grievances do have some substance, his timing is f***ing awful. The focus of everyone connected with NFFC should be solely on ensuring that we're in this division next season. He should leave his muck-raking campaign until a more appropriate time, if at all.

The problem with that is IF the owners do end up screwing us over (in any way) then our fans would be calling out Taylor et al for not digging into the owners and getting answers (not that I'm saying they will) .

That happened with Fawaz, fans only want the dirty laundry aired when it suits them, it's also not a journalists responsibility to release articles etc at a time that suits the club, at the end of the day Taylor has a responsibility to his bosses and not the club (and vice versa). If they want that sort of relationship then they need to work together, but I don't think EM would give Taylor the answers the questions he has.

So the new video(s) are up, to summarise;

Video 1 Transfer and Academy

Transfer policy is staying (doesn't go into what it is), states manager has final say on players. Modesto is working for both clubs still, and CH has his own men in to fins players.

The club are working towards Cat1 academy, hopefully get it sorted soon but no time line, they have been looking at new sites but found nothing. Instead they have put in planning permission to extend/build on the existing site. They are working with the FA to get a provisional Cat1 status, or to find out what need to be done.

Flat out denied the name change of the Nigel Doughty academy (they can address rumours), but didn't say if it was discussed and dropped due to potential backlash (as rumoured)

Video 2 Community Trust

Discussed the community trust and what they are doing including food banks, 3g pitches, it's tricky to talk etc.

Talked about diversity, LGBTQ, safe spaces etc also keeping ticket prices low for kids and young adults.

Video 3 Stadium redevelopment

Hoping to have the planning permission sorted by the summer.

They are building flats to assist the economic side of the club, and it is all part of the stadium plans.

The stadium will be greener, solar panels, and better building materials.

Timeline - there isn't one at this time, appears there is allot of other things that need to be sorted before any definitive timeline is made.

There are plans to do things with the "corners" of the stadium, and there will be upgrades to the other stands once the Peter Taylor stand is complete

Facilities are being upgraded (or looked into being).

Miracle Gates were mentioned, they are to be part of the new stadium, so we will likely here very little about them until the stadium starts to be built (probably used as a grand opening imo).

That about sums up the most important parts, nothing ground breaking but parts are interesting. Video 1 imo is the best, it's nice to see we are still working towards Cat1.

The Academy status should have been top priority from day 1. "We couldn't find space for new facilities and now we're begging EFL to grant us temporary cat 1 status" sounds a bit lame.

And the CG redtape was supposed to be done by "the first quarter", which has now been rephrased as "by summer".

The least grumpy of the two Taylors grumbles discreetly: "Will repeat what's been said previously - it would be great if the club hierarchy would allow the media to interview them on the record about the club's future plans. Which they never have, yet.
But they absolutely deserve credit for opening up lines of communication with fans."

The grumpier of the two Taylors has not reacted yet.

Danny Taylor the slight problem I have with him, from a Forest front in particular is he has, historically spoken up when he ain't got his own way. If the interviews are promised and the dialogue is there, it's all good. When that stops he kicks up a fuss. There's a time I recall in particular where he was about to run the story the players were going on strike and the club brokered a deal whereby DT would stay quiet in return for an exclusive with Fawaz, the players got paid and Fawaz told him where to go... at which point he kicked off.
This interview itself, it's a polished, lawyer type interview. It's the type of interview I would give if asked to for my employer. Model answers that don't blame anyone in particular but accepts mistakes were made, makes sure to force home the fact of what good there is and how much better it is than before. The questions are likely screened in advance, the answers are very eloquently put. It was never going to solve any grievances I do have, the actions in the future will.

Dialogue isn't that important really. Nobody was too fussed about hearing from EM or NR last year when we were on a promotion push. I don't see why this changes much but they're answering a call from a number of people.

Disgraceful questioning from the NFST, how are they supposed to answer that

Tops marks to the club for doing this. Need it to be more regular though, we all know about overpromising and underdelivery and the danger of too much info...but Randall comes across really well here also great to see how much they recognise the proposition correctly

Who the hell do you think Taylor is-the bloody messiah?. Frankly I'm bored of him and his ranting and if we get screwed over by the owners, Taylor won't even be mentioned, I think you are seriously overestimating his power in the minds of the average fan.

When a journalist is so obviously anti and antagonistic there is no chance of him getting anything out of the club, and I don't blame them, my guess is they hate him and any mention of his name will be met with Greek spitting....

So like all journos wanting to write informed stories the answer is to keep a balance that ensures lines of dialogue on the (real) inside remain open, unless you uncover something terrible. Shouting, bullying and gnashing of teeth is just pointless.

I profoundly disagree GBG. The academy "category" status has nothing to do with the EFL, it's essentially a PL scam under the fraudulent banner of "Elite Performance", designed to allow the so-called top clubs to acquire the best youth players from lower division clubs as and when they want at little or no cost.

To ensure they're not exploited, non-PL clubs like Forest effectively have to jump-through-hoops at significant cost to achieve Category One. As far as the NDA is concerned, there's little room for expansion at Gresham Avenue in order to meet the minimum number of pitches requirement, and also accommodation and educational facilities, let alone the medical/rehabilitation facility which has to almost bear comparison with a NHS health centre in terms of staff and equipment.

Finding a large enough alternative site within the greater Nottingham area that hasn't already been earmarked for future major housing development is nigh impossible. As such, if the club acquires Preliminary Cat. One status, it will be a highly creditable achievement by all, and in particular, the owner.

To be brutal, Taylor comes across as a bitter child. He suddenly goes from Hunky-dory to everything's awful. How can you trust the credibility of a journalist that switches so quickly? The whole role of journalists is to report the truth, not to hold back information until they deem it neccesery. It is one of the things I hate about the media industry, not to mention nowadays it's little about actual information and more about personal opinion of the journalist.

Fully agree with your sentiments regarding the Cat 1 scam and also the difficulty in getting a site. Leicester are about to open up their new Academy/Training ground and it is almost in Nottingham. They had the same difficulty finding the land.

I watched the collective Part 2 the other day and found it a chunk more interesting than Part 1.

Randall got into his stride a bit more and went beyond answering the questions actually asked, especially with regard to the Academy and community engagement.

Again, I was impressed by his approach. There have been and will be many more difficult (and potentially unpopular) decisions that need to be made. I'd always prefer them to be taken calmly and objectively, as opposed to letting sentimentality or knee jerk come into play.
