Q&A with Chairman Nicholas Randall, QC

It goes without saying of course that the NP is taking absolute advantage of this interview for material.

I fully expect that Ms Clapson and her colleagues will easily squeeze about a month-worth of re-hashments out of it.

We might as well all take the month off posting on here or else the NP won't be able to cope with all the usual copying and pasting of our comments.

I'm sure I've already saw 3 or 4 articles on it from the Post, so they are already milking it for all its worth.

They've also already done a piece on the reaction of trolls (oops, sorry, "fans") to NR's answer to only one of the questions he took.

After being told that the famous letter he wrote didn't actually mean anything I am taking everything he said in this interview with an ocean going tanker full of salt.

I thought it was pretty professional, if a little straight forward for NR. If people were hoping/expecting (like Gamble above) that he was going to be hauled over the coals, no owner/upper management would ever accept that at any club.

But I am also not sure why he should be addressing anything Danny Taylor has brought up, because I am yet to see any proof behind his claims and nobody willing to put their names next to these rumours either.
I may have got his tweets and articles mixed up, but he has made claims in Articles in the past.
Fans have wanted some communication from the club, and here it is. People will always moan and complain whatever the club does, but NR didn’t have to give answers to a set of the questions complied by the Supporters Trust. As with most other Tv interviews I’m sure the limits of questioning were agreed beforehand. Nothing wrong with that. No football chairman in the world would agree to an Andrew Neil type grilling. Why would they? He certainly didn’t need to be drawn into responding to baseless rumour and tittle tattle posted on Twitter.

Overall it was good to hear from NR and get an outline of the behind the scenes, day to day operations, and strategy. I didn’t realise NR has such a hands on role.
I don't expect that sort or grilling, but even base less rumours as you call them, when they're coming from one of the most respected sports journalists in the country should be addressed.

What Taylor said would make him liable for defamation, so I don't think he'd make stuff up on a whim just for twitter clout, and if the club knew them to be false I'd be wanting to out right deny the claims if I were NR or EM.

The only good thing from the interview is admitting that they think short term too much and FFP is hand (manly because we sold Matty for 16m), but everything else we pretty much knew I think.

That doesn't surprise me. It's sad how predictably awful they are. Not just for Forest stuff either. They really are a joke of a "newspaper".

Pretty much a pointless interview, nothing asked that needed to be asked. It was all too "safe" and nothing probing, we need answers regarding Daniel Taylor's article in the Athletic, why are players treated like cattle? Why is Vrentos causing problems with the council and dragging our clubs name through the mud? What is the transfer strategy with 60+ players through the doors in 4 years and 80% not good enough? Why are players in "the bomb squad" treated so appallingly? Carvalho/Ribeiro why were they told to find new clubs?

Also regarding the discount, that was a pathetic answer, 10% is nothing to the club but encourages people to buy, I usually spend £50-100 a year in the store, that action alone has led me to spend £0, so for the sake of £5-10 discount they lost £45-90.

...and of course a QC of Randall's standing would answer each of those with honesty and integrity and give full analysis and fact about the dirty laundry?

“The second part of the interview which will cover the City Ground redevelopment, football strategy and community and fan engagement will be filmed for release next week.”

I’m surprised Netflix haven’t picked it up.
Comedy Central outbid them.

I have met Mr Randall.
On careful consideration, under no circumstances would I buy a used car off him.

I have also met Mr Randall. He said to me " Bit early for that isn't it?" Pint at 11.30. Pre-match. He can f*** off!

Also met him when he appeared at the cross keys after a match at the beginning of last season. Mingled and quite happily chatted to all who were there which I thought was sound of him . Don't know if I'd buy a car of him but I wouldn't bother buying a car from most people on here either. Id get depression

I imagine without gate receipts and match day revenue for 14 months that the majority of clubs in this division will be struggling to keep in line with FFP without significant player sales.

Agreed Captain. The chairman should account fully as to the reason why Zak Clough was denied being served an omelette in the NDA players' canteen - or whatever it was of that nature that Daniel Taylor was getting himself worked-up about.

I like Randall's pragmatic approach: he has to view it through the prism of a business sustainability, which is ultimately the correct way to operate.

He's fairly open about mistakes having been made and that they will occur again, but this is pretty much inevitable on any progression and at least it shows they're trying to push the proverbial envelope. Although he talks about on-field success being the ultimate aim, he's equally clear about the financial realities faced by the club.

We'll have to take his word for it about current FFP compliance and the financial situation for the time being, but this summer's transfer business will be quite telling in that respect. I still suspect Worrall will have to be sold to partially fund losses and that the wage bill will have to be drastically reduced moving forward, but I'm slightly more encouraged that CH will have a budget to add new signings of his choice.

I couldn't help but notice that you can't see his desk at any point in the interview, so I am doubting its authenticity.

I would imagine the season ticket information will be released for next year after the conclusion of this Q&A, when they feel they have sufficiently papered over any and all cracks.
Nice to know we're not in danger of breaching FFP (Thank you Matty Cash) but that's about all I'll take from the interview.

I'm more inclined to believe respected journalist and Forest fan Daniel Taylor about some of these issues than I am someone on the Marinakis payroll to be honest, though.

Bit like the Megan and Harry interview, I'm more inclined to think the truth lies in the middle.

So the smooth barrister Randall gives the best view possible of the Forest situation and Taylor wants a few eye-catching points to lead his article.
