Q&A with Chairman Nicholas Randall, QC

Nice of him to confirm the current plan for Dane. Get the signings sorted and window out the way before getting his teeth into the bigger picture. Think a fair few are expecting a bit too much too soon (esp on Twiitoorr)

That's a very encouraging interview, and it definitely sounds like we've learned from our recent mistakes.

Thanks for posting.

You seem to have missed some parts of the interview, such as the very warm words Randall still has for Vrentzos (while openly acknowledging that the transfer strategy was wrong and unsustainable). :p

Interesting interview, more than the Q&A. The official line now is, openly, "we're taking the long, sustainable road to the promised land, rather than the risky road of swift promotion, where we basically messed things up completely".

 Tbf I agree with Randall on that front. Vrentroz got some great prices for a few players. He deserves credit for that, and I've actually said so quite a few times.

And Randall also echos a sentiment which was probably my main gripe regards it all anyway - "Hopefully we have the right balance now". Not to mention, as you say, the overall approach in general. There'll prob come a time when we may need to gamble, but let's get there first before going gung-ho.

It seems that part of the new regime is a significantly more active presence of Randall, at least in the media.

There's probably a better thread than this, but Colin Fray interviewed Nick Randall

Wish we didn't have that dig, we probably wouldn't have been far off that situation had we not have burke, Brereton to sell

Weird response. We DID have those to sell and did therefore we operated accordingly. Feels funny to read an "if my grandmother had balls" comment here.

Good interview.

Hopefully everything will be put into practice.

I think the point is we decided to sell so we weren't punished.

And we didn't then use tax payers money to buy more players.

That's exactly why we are entitled to that dig. Making the decision to sell your best or most talented youngsters is what helps keeps you within the financial constraints.

He comes across as abit dour but loved the dig because we have absolutely done things the correct way and are entitled to pat ourselves on the back as a club no matter what happens.

From the times I’ve heard him, he seems to always sound like that.

Imagine trying to cheat using money meant for HMRC to pay to Martyn Waghorn.

Me and the Mrs have just listened to Randall's interview.
It was absolutely perfect.
He is the chairman of the Club, not a stand up comedian, and he is a sizeable voice in the game's governance.
The messages were clear, concise, balanced and above all crystal clear and understandable.
Colin Frey is a damn good interviewer as well as a first rate radio commentator.

And the fact we had those players to sell, plus several others from our excellent Academy Development programme, means we acted properly from a financial perspective.
Direby on the other hand decided to risk speculating without having a weather eye to the financial plight of the club should that flirtation with bouht-in success fail.

I have to say that I thought the interview was excellent.
I suppose it’s pretty easy for him to talk eloquently, given his background, but even so, the content was absolutely on point.

I was heartened to hear him totally contradict my theory in the Redevelopment thread about potentially re-locating by confirming EM's committment to staying put, irrespective of the seemingly endless obstacles..
