Yes I was one of those not to rate him, and I loved eating that massive humble pie - thank you Neco for proving me so wrong. Turns out he was worth that transfer fee after all. I do not know why we don't let him have a go a free kicks, MGW has not worked out with that part of the game and this lad would do a better job

Yeah, for me, he was at times all over the place, but you know what, he’s got his head down, worked hard, and he has improved significantly, to the extent that he does now look a 17m Premier League player.

And that is no bad thing.

I'm not intending to call anyone out...but there's an awful lot of this thread that has not aged well.
Absolutely embarrassing in fairness.

I've often found myself defending Neco from vultures in the past, he's a proper scapegoat for those with a negative or limited knowledge of the game, an easy target. Its always baffled my how some people just couldn't see a player there. He gives 110% in every game, there's the odd mistake in him like any young player. He's most certainly the best we have at delivering balls into the box too.

One of the first names on the team sheet for me.

To err is to be human (it takes a computer to really f*** things up).
I admit it: Neco is fast proving me wrong.
At the time I wrote what I wrote based on what I saw from a £17m signing.
Call me Mr Bargain hunter, but if I paid £17m for player myself, i would have expected that player to show pretty quickly hat he was worth the money.
Neco has improved out of all recognition since I wrote what I did.
It doesn't totally invalidate what i wrote.
20/20 hindsight is an amazing asset, Congo.

Hence why I qualified it as having 'aged' badly Cap'n - at the time the statements certainly weren't wrong.
Although if Neco stays here beyond his initial contract and continues to put in good performances, the £17m doesn't look so bad.
Another star player we will have to sell to avoid challenging for a top 10 finish.
Sorry: to comply with the totally fair and well worked out FFP regulations.

I think we could look back at a post everyone made at some point and criticize. I have thousands no doubt.

I do think lots of people went in waaaaay too hard on Neco though, we would miss 4 glaring chances and he would be the focus of attention for some. It got utterly ridiculous.

When you think about the numbers in football its as if people think because they cost 20m instead of 5m 10 years ago that young players adapt to suit their relative price tag which obviously doesn't happen that often. Its this league, its sends the most patient of fans into fits of anger such is the eagerness to compete and survive.

I was also one who didn't rate him until we switched to wingbacks; the frustration was around his positional play and defensive awareness which made him look like a footballing illiterate.

Looking back that was really just piss poor coaching from the red noses. He seems to have sorted those problems out and now he looks top drawer.

Very happy to admit I was wrong about Neco. Not that he was terrible at the time, but that he would never make a PL full back. He's now a very good one, less than a year later.

I think it does raise questions as to what Licerpool were doing, to have such a capable player be so far from ready for PL football?!

does that mean you have a limited football knowledge?

Doubt it based on your posts, but felt quite an unnecessary add on.

I don’t think anyone is unhappy to be proven wrong but it doesn’t invalidate what has gone before.

Me? I'm a very limited man it has to be said :)

I think I meant to say was the manner in which he was targeted was in line with someone with limited knowledge as opposed to anyone questioning his ability. He has struggled at times no doubt but he got some right palters on social media from an awful lot of idiots in my opinion. As if they had never seen a player not make a mistake before. We also had Omar on here, his biggest fan.

To be fair that comment of mine was one of the more tame ones, I have been far more critical. I still think the money we invested was a waste of money for what we required. The last couple of months he is turning it round and maybe will be worth around what we paid for him, but he still needs to continue with his form.

I absolutely love his attitude though, he’s totally won me over with that alone.

I stand by my comments to be fair.

Neco was a poor signing for us as a newly promoted club to spend £17m on - for that money we needed someone ready. Fortunately Serge turned out to be a good one who could hold that position when Neco floundered.

However, he’s improving all the time and it’s great to see. I’d like to see him push on now and become a Gareth Bale lite for us! Without being repetitive of others I’d also like to see him take over from MGW for a bit on our set pieces.

Me too brother, me too.

It is clear, he has absolutely got stuck in during training and worked on his game, and Forest are reaping the benefits.

Good on him I say, he has proved the doubters absolutely wrong, and I am here for it.

I don't see the point in calling people out for their comments on Neco from when was it, 2022? You see what you see at the time and you're brave enough to commit yourself to your opinion at that time. Equally, you're big enough and brave enough to change your opinion.

I've usually tried to defend him because I saw how he performed against Spence for Fulham and thought there was a real talent there. The only guy I saw give Spence a rough time.

Nobody's perfect and we've all got things wrong in life, and football fans are often wild and emotional in their opinions. That's what we do at times. Some of the best football managers get it wrong with certain players, too.

As long as he's being appreciated now, that's the main thing 🤩

Neco played RB for them in the 1-0 match which we won towards the end of that season. Joe Bryan was at left back.
