Fair point-but he’s played nearly all of his senior football in the 2nd tier.
I’d personally invest the invest the rest of our transfer budget elsewhere-a decent striker or two would be
a good start.
I am with you in the need for those players but it’s only the fans that have established this budget.

40m on MGW or 2 players elsewhere has been fabricated buy our fan base

Think everyone needs to chill out a bit and not believe everything on Twitter.

Lingard - wages will be 180k or 200k on a 5 year deal we are putting the club stability at risk …actual wage 80k on a 1 year deal

Moreno - they want 20m! It’s mental. Move on…actual fee 9m

Moral of the story, we don’t get the details. Everything gets over inflated. It’s not your money, if the very talented recruitment and finance team deem we can afford whatever fee for MGW and he fits the requirements we need then do it.

Saying just spend that 40m on 2 other players if just rubbish
The Telegraph is usually a pretty reliable source to be fair.

Having said that, whilst £40m is the headline figure we don't know how it is structured. If a decent chunk of that is made up of add-ons then it isn't so bad. If not, then we are overpaying by a huge amount.

We shall see in the coming days I guess, I have a feeling something will happen (either the deal gets done or we finally move on) one way or another quite soon. If it does happen, we'll probably get more details after its confirmed.

True-but I didn’t say spend £40m on 2 players-I said spend the rest of our budget elsewhere(whatever
that amount may be).

Anything north of £30m doesn't really sit right, for me.

We've done some fantastic business this summer. I hope we're not letting it go to our heads in spending this kind of money on one player.

I'm not even sure where he'd fit into our team, to be honest. Either he or Lingard would need to sit on the bench most games.

Irrespective of the transfer price tag, he's a signing where you're looking at 2-3 years down the track and projecting what he'll be.

If we're going really hard for him now, there'll have been lots of indepth discussion amongst the coaches / recruiters on how we'll use him - both this season, and into the future - and there'll be a plan as to where he fits into the system. If the general tone of articles going back months is correct, and MGW was always the major target, then it'd suggest that Lingard was the opportunistic signing. That would mean that the original recruiting plan is continuing along, and presumably MGW is viewed as key in our setup for the next five years. Lingard being a 60th minute sub certainly makes the bench look more dangerous. That's the beauty of the Lingard deal - no transfer fee, no ongoing contract to service, no long term positional commitment. He almost sits outside the recruiting strategy as a "bonus".

I'm happy to trust in the overall plan. MGW won't be the only signing to come. And it ain't my money they're spending, lol.

That part wasn’t aimed at you cloughie - others had said things along those lines.

I guess where I am at is where are the cheaper alternatives, who are they, where are they?

If the biggest gripe for most is MGW isn’t proven in the league yet we are happy to bring in an alternative from Germany or France for example.

I don’t believe for a second that Lingard has been brought in to come off the bench.
No reason whatsoever why he can’t play in the starting X1 alongside MGW.

25m should be limit, 40m if true is having a laugh. Next man up as Cooper says. For all the potential and performances in the Championship, he is still unproven in the Premier league.

If we buy him for this sort of money, the pressure on the player and even the manger to succeed will be immense and might end up having a negative effect.

Plenty of very reliable people said Betis wanted 20m for Moreno

If we're looking at spending this kind of cash, I'd seriously consider testing Chelsea's resolve with Conor Gallagher.

This is exactly what I am on about. There is a massive diefference between a player being valued at 40m and wanting to come to a newly promoted team.

Gallagher excelled at palace to the point he got an England international call up. He is on Chelsea’s bench and as a young player will not be seeing Forest as a step up

I can't believe folk think that Steve Cooper isn't signing a new contract unless Forest sign MGW

Please give your head a massive wobble, he's not a 12 year old playing around in the school playground
He's holding out for something, otherwise he'd have signed a new contract by now.

It's not anything as insignificant as signing MGW though I'm quite sure.

Tomorrow some clown on twitter will state Wolves want £50m & folk will discuss if its worth it & by Tuesday they'll debating the £60m fee someone on twitter has upgraded it to

In reality we've probably offered 20-25m plus add ons & Wolves are hanging out for a bit more

He has 46 games in the Premier League under his belt and 60 games I'm the championship. 57% doesn't really register as 'nearly all', Surely?

Coopers number one target from the moment the final whistle went at Wembley

Mr M backing the manager we all want him to back

Welcome to the Premier League people. If obscene amounts of money flying about makes you a bit squeamish then you might want to find a new hobby for a bit!

Whether it’s £20m or £40m it’s too much. Of course it is. It’s too much for any human being to do any “job” but it is what it is. This is the world we live in now. We’ve been out of it all so long we’re probably the only set of fans that that haven’t yet become numb to it all. But we will. If we stay up and continue is this league we will

Just remember it ain’t MGW’s fault the price is that high…

We (mostly) worshipped a little Portuguese lad who did three shades of feck all to get us promoted after he cost the relative equivalent in the Championship. I’m sure we’ll all get behind this lad much the same as we will all desperately want him to succeed and justify some of the massive price tag.

It’s madness. But we are a fully fledged member of the circus now. So buckle up and enjoy the rollercoaster!

If it’s on. Welcome Morgan. I hope Mr Cooper is as happy as a pig in poop that he’s got his man…

Very likely. But I think we're on the same basic page - having Lingard doesn't really change the idea of getting MGW (if that really is the idea , of course), the overall outlook for now and future can accommodate both in various ways. Whether it works or not, there will absolutely be an overarching plan. Having blokes on the bench at Newcastle who we didn't want to play in Championship games, let alone at PL level, won't be part of that plan.

If Haaland‘s fee was £51 million, it boggles the mind that MGW is ‘worth’ approaching £40 million.

I know that Wolves are trying to price us out of the deal, but jeez. 😳

Wasn't that a release clause fee for Haaland? Looks like an error on BvB's part. He should be going for £150m in today's prices surely?

£51 million was the fee, total £85 million with add-ons apparently.
