He'll be fed up with his own form wont he.

I don't care where you play on the pitch in whatever position, as a highly rated expensive footballer, he should be doing far better with decision making, control, passing, skill, dead balls etc etc.
I agree. But you know what egotistical footballers are like, I bet in his head his poor form will solely be due to being played out of position.

The PSV fan on here said Sangare is much better in a 2 and not great in a 3. So no reason why we can’t have MGW at 10 with Mangala & Sangare behind.
Don't believe that for a second.

If he was as good as he was made out to be he could play in a bloody 3.

Don't judge a player on what he does in the Dutch league is the lesson here.

I don't. He showed his colours. Kouyate too, certainly. But refusing Cooper cajoling him to go acknowledge the fans says much about MGW's character. He's done shit all season, and wasn't brave enough to do as Cooper asked post match. I am done with him and his overhyped pathetic candy ass.
I watched it back and yeah he clearly knows the players have been asked to go over to the fans and carries on his chat. Would love to know if there's a story behind all of this.

Workrate just isn't enough in the 1st Division.
Absolutey right, Ray old lad.
However, that applies to every player on the pitch in a Garibaldi Red shirt these days.
Last season every one of the team gave close to 100% efffort, even if they were technically not quite up to the mark.
This season, since Villa, how many can say they have left everything on the pitch come the end of the game?

Just occured to me what a big weekend this is for MGW for various factors...

Not only is he back to the club he came through at (and left under a bit of a cloud), he also was central to some post match scuffles at our cup fixture last year, after being accused of over celebrating by their manager at the time, none other than Julien Lotepegui (spellcheck).

He's in the midst of a tough season, playing out of form in a different role (out of position? He came through there but I think he's better central).

He'll be in for pelters from their fans, and in an ideal world you'd take him out of the firing line. However needs must, and the hope has to be that he is fired up enough to go the other way and stand out.

If we persist with a back four he's up front for me in the false nine, with runners either side. I appreciate for a side that currently can't find a pass to feet more than twice in a move that is probably folly, but it's all I've got (in a four - move to a back five and Wood can start).

Anyhow, given the players relationship with Cooper and one of the men apparently being lined up to replace him, and it all feels a bit make or break and pressure-cooker-esque.

Has to play for me, primarily because he's one of the few players we have who belongs at this level, secondly because he seems to play better with a fire lit under his arse, which a game against Wolves & their fans will inevitably provide.

His execution has been as poor as anyones at times & he;s been under a malaise playing in a position where he can't fully control our attacking impetus.

Find a way to play him centrally & you'll get full value from him tomorrow at least.

Agreed - he has to start in a four or a five (wasn't clear on that), since we are so dire at the minute we need anyone capable of doing what we know Morgan can. And yes - centrally, either false nine or behind the striker.

I'm preparing myself that it might not go well for him tomorrow though... Tough gig for him in our current circumstances.

Generally against Wolves he rises to the occasion, so I'd almost say this is tailor made for him. He'll be fired up I'm sure - hopefully some of that will rub off on his teammates.
The way things are though, is there not a risk the opposition will target him with some black art naughty tricks to provoke him into retaliation and get him red-carded?
It would be in keeping with the rest of this sad old week.

Yes I can see that being a risk, but at least it would show some much needed passion, and might even draw our players together and encourage a backs to the wall performance. It wouldn't be any worse than the other night, in other words.

And there is a tooth-fairy, and there is a Father Christmas, and ELF is a really good film.

I agree he had a good game today, he's gotta play central - a much more effective player.

But I have to point out the disgraceful way Wolves fans acted towards him. The whole stadium chanting his girlfriend/wife's a slag. Sorry but that's disgusting. In the climate of every chant remotely offensive being clamped down upon by the authorities this should be treated no differently. f***ing pathetic, he deserved a goal just for karma.

I think today and performances last season just go to show the wide experiment hasn't born fruit

If he's going to start games it needs to be in the middle in front of the midfield, it's the place he makes things happen
Which is precisely the point I was making the other day.
Gibs-White is, in my view, the main formation problem Cooper has to deal with (and he hasn't). He is the most creative player of this team. Creative players rarely excel for large patches of the game; it is crucial moments they usually offer. But he clearly struggles on the flanks, and a formation which allowed him to play more centrally would suit him much better, and would create the unexpected moments which panic the defenders of the opponent. However, Cooper also needs three proper midfielders in midfield, in order to control space and the opposition's passing game; if he sacrifices one of the three for MGW to play more centrally, he will lose that control.

I'm no expert, so I have no solutions to offer, but I think this has been a key issue this season.
Is 3-5-2 Cooper's answer?

I think so, especially away. I also think we're too quick to dismiss Elanga in that Brennan-style lone striker role. He's played it a grand total of twice now, and one of those was Anfield where we barely had a sniff. If anyone can coach him into playing that role better it's Cooper. We've already seen the lad can finish.
