MISSING: Matty Fryatt

RRRREDUN

Jack Burkitt
I find this constant sniping at injured players tiresome. We don't honestly believe that these players choose to be injured. Do we?
Some players we picked up because they were nursing injuries and we gambled that we could get them fit. Fryatt would be in my starting 11 if fit.

Yep, I always said Ayala was a good player if we could stay loyal to him throughout his injury. People were so keen to get rid of him, and we did. What happened? He lead Middlesbrough to a play-off finishing place, before helping them win promotion to the Premier League last season.
So many times it's been said but again, apparently "not good enough for Nottingham Forest".
He's as much a product of the vastly superior coaching and medical staff at Middlesbrough as their loyalty to a player with a history of injuries.

My favourite example of this is Wes Morgan. I've also seen Bale touted about after some vague interest from Davies back in the day, like he would have become a tenth of the player he is now if he'd spent his formative years at Forest.

Good points.

Bale would probably have been out injured for a couple of years if he'd come here, and then gone to Hiddersfield on loan.

When I moan about a player being a perma-crock I'm not moaning at the player as they can't help it. Generally I'm saying that it's not worth keeping them because of their injuries, and they're a waste of money. Also sometimes I'm annoyed that club decide to employ players with awful injury records, giving them >1m a year and a three year contract. Then wander why they're failing FFP.

Brutal, but sadly it's the stance you have to take in modern football.

Thing about this thread now is that both sides are making really good points, and neither seems to be disagreeing with the other.

Is Fryatt a good player? He's an excellent player at this level and competent at the top table.

Is he worth what we paid? No, because he's done f*** all and that's a really simple conclusion to draw which can't be refuted.

Should we not have signed him? Well, yes because he's an injury risk but no because he's a player we could never have signed if he was 100% so we take our gambles, as fans do on results week in, week out. It hasn't paid off yet but nor would anyone have put money on him being out as much as he has.

Something, something Burton something... - I can imagine he and Clough share a mentality towards the game, and no small amount of vision in the middle and final third, as well. For a manage in Clough's position, to think "I wish I could stick myself out there, I'd know what to do" and have a player available who *might* in a season of unprecedented opportunity come on loan or as a cheap signing and provide that boost to the squad... you'd be mad not to at least meet the guy fora chat.

Can he succeed at Forest? 80 minutes gone, 2-1 down, we need a point to remain in the top two. Forward's taken a knock. Who you gonna call? Tyler Walker, Lars Veldwijk... or a Matty Fryatt with 20 minutes running in him? Yeah, exactly.

He's been f**ked for a long time and cost us a lot of money, but he's a Sheringham. They don't need pace, or 90 minutes in the tank. They just need to be available at the hour of reckoning. He might yet have that within him.

If not, we can throw Nigel a bone, and there's few who'd begrudge doing that.

Good points, I guess some players just develop better with other teams.

Well for me personally, the problem is not with Fryatt himself because as you say, he can't help being injured. My problem is the club and lack of update regarding these injured players.
Again, I'm not insisting the fans should know every player's' whereabouts, but just the occasional update/interview with the long term injured would go a long way.

It was nice to see/have updates on Chris Cohen every so often during his last injury, it reminded us of him and how much he was missed in the team.
I know Fryatt is a good player, but I have absolutely no idea whether he's 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years away from being fit again.

Where's me hammer?
Id be f**ked off if he chucks 40 games out for Burton this season

Barry

Where's me hammer?
f**ked off with who though Barry?. The player or this club for its inability to keep players match fit.

Physio side of things, came with a history of injury's but nobody questioned it.

Player for not wanting to prove a point.

Most importantly, the club for wasting money yet again...

He tends to play well against us an I think that could have had a sway. Ultimately though I can't really argue with what you are saying and feel sad that it's yet another gamble by the club that has not paid off.

When was the last time we gambled and it came off? I mean a broken clocks right twice a day but we just seem to get everything wrong, through either luck or bad management

When was the last time we gambled and it came off?

Michail Antonio?

Regarded as an erratic luxury by Sheffield Wednesday fans, we turn a tidy profit on him in twelve months, paying £1.5m and selling for £7m apparently?

And that is why we are were we are and I have very little faith that things will change in a positive manner anytime soon.

He wasent really a gamble though was he mate? No injury problems for a start and had he carried on the form he had at Wednesday which to be fair was hit and miss i think we would have still been happy.

For us he became a beast but i wouldnt consider him a gamble per-say

It's not always possible to say. All injuries are not the same. Recovery times for Cohen and Assombalonga were more or less spot-on, Reid and Fryatt less so, but they always said that would be the case.

But again, an injury update from the club or an interview with Fryatt himself would help. Even if he wasn't able to provide us with much of an update so to speak, just giving his opinion on the club would be good.
Right now Fryatt seems SO distant from the club.

I said this a couple of seasons ago, I think those with long term injuries should be doing promotional activities and special events for the club.
Fryatt should be in the club shop on a certain day promoting the new home shirt, or something, anything!

It's all about mid-table...
A fit Fryatt and the injury curse to take a break with the rest of the crocks and we'll be comfortably mid-table.

...and here's me wishing all but a tiny percentage of footballers would never, ever talk in the media again.

"How's the pre-season coming along under the new manager, Chris?"

"Yeah, good. It's good because of the things that you know about already, which I'll list for you again now. Hopefully we can do well. So yeah, good, yeah"

(and he's one of the good ones)

Let the poor bastards play. Or lobby for us to sign Stephen Fry. But this middle ground is f***ing killing me.

But y'see this is my exact point, Matty Fryatt isn't playing for us, and nobody has heard anything of him in well over a year now.
He's picking up wages that were a factor in us being in a transfer embargo, so is it so wrong to want to hear something from him? Or have him contribute in some other way for the club?

If his injury is preventing him from training to play football Kieran, in what other way would you suggest he contribute?
