Was decent when he first came here but the league has moved on since then and unfortunately he didn't follow.

No longer has the mental fortitude to survive in the Championship sadly. The pace of life in MLS will suit him much better.

I know nothing of the MLS and feel none the worse for that.

I'm sure Mance will enjoy the change of scenery and style of life. Good luck to him.

LAFC and ATL UTD are very exciting teams because they are all flair and young, its nice to see them. Everyone else is meh.

Do I need to watch more of the MLS?

Must admit I thought it wasn’t up to much, but it’s all assumptions on my part rather than first hand viewing. I honestly don’t keep up to date with it as I thought it still developing.

Pretty much like Australia, the league there struggles to compete with NRL and cricket, I guessed football struggles to compete with NFL, MLB and to a lesser extent NBA.

My son lives in Australia and the only game he goes to watch in the A league is the Sydney derby between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, as the rest are pretty lifeless.

It blows me away that Atlanta pull in over 70000 fans every other week. Sporting capital of the South I think.

And when you consider the other sporting options available.

The NFL and MLB are prominent there, plus the massive following for College Football in that part of the US.

Why, cos Mancienne has gone there?

You need to get out more

As Thomas has said LAFC and Atlanta are very fun to watch especially Atlanta (Josef Martínez is f***ing ace).

Plus you got youngsters like Alphonso davies whose just got picked up by Bayern.

Pause it before you start the video, his positioning is OK. The left back has gone AWOL, so his choices are:
1) Mark the man in the middle
2) Mark the man out wide
3) Mark the space in the middle.

Both 2 + 3 results in an easy through ball with no chance of catching the man in the middle.

1 requires a decent ball over the top and gives Mance better chance (albeit still not great) of getting back to block.

Video looks worse than it is because he gets drawn slightly to the ball, presumably trying to maintain the offside line thinking his full back is inline, but ultimately the fault is that there's no cover at full back whatsoever.

I think option 1 should have been step up with your other defenders.

He's only about a metre behind the other two when the ball is played. It's not terrible.

The absolute elephant in the room is the complete lack of cover at full back. The left back is practically playing on the shoulder of the last man up front. It's ridiculous. Even if Mancienne steps up one more metre, the other guy could still have easily gotten into score by holding the run slightly.

If that was a Karanka defence we'd all be fuming at Osborn.

The line is too high as well for where the ball is. It needs to be 5-10 yards further back to not leave 60 yards of space with a simple ball over the top. A line on the halfway line when the ball is only 15 yards further forward and NOT in your possession is suicide.

Mancienne shouldn't get drawn to the ball so easily and could probably do more to get back, but he's not solely to blame. All four defenders are equally at fault.

Only excuse was they were chasing the game at that point with a few mins left...your right though it was suicide with such a high Line and the LB in another zip code !

Don’t know how much MLS you watch Robbie (it’s popular in Germany with the yanks who are here) but defending with - what in the Championship for example - would be called a suicidal high Defensive line is actually quite common in the MLS.

I’ve seen quite a bit of MLS games, and what you point out is something a lot of US teams seem to do, they defend maybe 10-15 yards further up the pitch. Bit odd, to be honest.

 brilliant isn't it, now hop over to the Ben Osborn thread and compare the responses.
