McGugan Told To Weight

Majewski is a nice footballer, but there isn't a top number ten in world football who doesn't get goals and assists. Davies demanded as I did that he started getting into the box and score some goals - which he did to be fair. But for some reason you seem to be taking Lewis's success as an affront to Raddy? Davies has proved that he can massively up both men's games. When you were going on about Raddy knitting things together we were plummeting down the league because we just couldn't score from midfield...

This isn't ice dancing - attacking players have to score and make goals even if it deflected - Lampard has scored about a hundred goals like the Ipswich one. Majewski is more pleasing on the eye but Lewis can strike a ball. There is a place for both in the squad as shown today with an assist for Raddy and a goal for Lewis. But please, give some credit to Lewis because his strike rate off the bench is pretty decent to say the least and he is making an impact every game and certainly not "slowing things down".

Raddy just gels the whole team better, gives us more options, more possession and more control over games. Both have their place and I definitely do and always have give Lewis some credit, but out of the 2 raddy is the better player for me.

Raddy would step up to Prem level no probs, for Lewis that step is a lot further IMO.

If both fired on top form all the time I'd say Lewis would shade it - but in reality he doesn't do that. Nowhere near.

I don't think either have really shown they are Premier class over the years - there has been little interest from that level. Majewski is extremely frail and would only be picked in certain teams who pass the ball. McGugan would only be a sub because he would be even more of a luxury at that level. McCleary went on a goalscoring run longer than either and hasn't quite cut it. Gunter (who was over-rated imo) has been dire. It is a massive step up.

He's not Stuart Pearce. He's not Chris Cohen. He's not Luke Chambers who many of you voted player of the year on the back of his fist pumps. It's not in Lewis McGugan's nature. It doesn't mean he doesn't try. It doesn't mean he doesn't care. He plays the game at his own tempo, and that won't ever change.

Attacking players are, by nature, less consistent than defensive players. And those that do show consistency are you Lionel Messis, and Cristiano Ronaldos. Lewis McGugan isn't going to one day turn into a good player, he is a very good player with great ability who like many attacking players will struggle to reproduce his performance levels week in, week out. I remember Kris Commons getting the same criticism when he was here.

So yeah, fair enough, maybe he doesn't always warrant a start. But what a player to bring off the bench. There will be very few players who can come of the bench in this division with the potential to change a game more than Lewis McGugan. Delighted he's with us rather than against us, would offer him a new contract tomorrow.

Raddy took up two of their five man midfield today. It is incumbent on his colleagues to make the most of the distraction he provides, instead we still tried to play it through the middle because we have got f*** all width. Jars and Cohen were often busy marking.

We're lucky to have the choice of McGugan and Majewski.

Personally I don't see how anyone can make these 'he'll never make it in the premier league' judgements. Theres beeen masses of lower league players who have made it in this division, players who have done well and surprised everyone. So how can you instantly know how either mcgugan or majewski if we get there? (Plus we're not even there yet anyway!)

If any of you think he doesn't care, watch his celebration today! Also I don't get the comparison between Majewski and McGugan they are different players, why does it have to be one or the other, why can't we be happy with them both in our team, and both playing very well!

Well said.

The only thing that riles me is when people start calling for Raddy to be dropped and McGugan to replace him just because of what McGugan does from the bench. If it aint broken, don't fix it.

I bet Nffc13 is hating this at the mo! Nearly every time Lewis is brought up he slaughters him. I'm not saying we should play him week in week out, but you can't deny his ability to win matches.

At the end of the day its about the team and winning matches. COYR

I'm a massive critic of McGugan.

Not hating any of it at the moment. It's all about the squad, and everyone in the squad is playing brilliantly at the minute.

Next game, does McGugan get a start? No, not for me. He's much better as an impact sub and that's always been said.

Maybe after the international break, he can get a start, because of the international call-ups of Lansbury, Guedioura and Majewski, it makes sense.

It was a good finish today, I'll give him credit for that.

This 100%!

Quite a lot of the critism of Lewis in this forum is really unjustified and entrenched. Thats my opinion anyways!

Anyone criticising the player who won us the game today and three points is a numpty and should go join some other forum. Maybe a dog walkers forum or an arse scratchers forum.

Nobody including me have called for majewski to be dropped so why the big panic? He is playinlg well and we have won 6 in a row. Mcgugan at the moment is the best sub in this league. He is keeping all midfielders on their toes as they know they must win games. That is a far healthier situation than nobody scoring which was the case.

I agree, we need to keep Raddy in the team, just I feel it would be silly to let him go as he can be such a key player at times. Just need to know when to use him.

+1

Raddy does so much for the side, just by taking the ball anywhere on the pitch and keeping it in the opposition half. He links well with Reid and Cohen too.

McGugan might not like the 'super-sub' label, but he does a damn fine job at it under Davies.

There's always the element of carrying him when he plays for 90. He comes in and out of games. But with 20 minutes to go, he has the desire to make an impact, and the ability to go with it, against tiring legs and brains. His ability to work some space, get the ball out of his feet and score a smashing goal have never been in doubt.

Billy is clever with him too, saying he nearly started him against Hull, that will keep him on his toes, let him know he's not far away from earning that start, and could see him contributing again next game against Brighton.
