McGugan Told To Weight

Sorry. WAIT.... :)

Today's Post runs a story saying Billy has told Lewis that contract talks won't happen till the end of the season and for now to just concentrate on playing.

Same goes with all loanees, in particular Ward and Jara. Also says about Hendo earning a long term deal.

Gotta agree with him though really. Leave that incentive in there rather than make things comfortable.

Agree, though I imagine Billy saying ''wait and there will be a contract'' will be a lot more comforting than previous regimes.

Also I'm guessing a large part of that depends on what division we are in next season...

I think the key players like Raddy Dex etc have been given new deals, The rest can wait until we know if we are going up or not.

If we are fortunate enough to get promoted there will be a shift in the class of player that we look to bring in.
No disrespect to any of the players mentioned, but apart from Jara, are the others on loan (or coming to the end of their current contracts) going be of sufficient class to make it in the Premiership?
Just look at how Reading have struggled - they are doomed and the replacement of McDermott came too late.
He recruited the wrong players on securing promotion.
Gunter & McCleary are both decent Championship players - even good at this level.
Neither is of sufficient class to hold a place in a Premiership team.

I would think that behind this agents have been reassured that there will be talks, whereas before it was just bungled.

Losing McGugan would be a bad move, top player when he's on form, and as seen BD is getting most out of him again already.

I would hate to see him away despite the seemingly majority on here that does. I'm hoping that Billy is just keeping him and the rest hungry ...:faceslap:

Same applies to those who wanted to offload McGugan.....

Still, I agree with Billy, you have to earn the right to wear that Forest shirt.

Give him a new contract now, Raddys just had a new contract and it hasnt detracted from his form.

Those on this forum who have constantly slaughtered Lewis in the most unpleasant way, have got egg dripping down their faces. He's a fantastic talent who just needed a decent manager to keep him involved rather than freezing him out.

Sounds to me like Billy Davies just wants to be sure Billy Davies has a job next season and if Billy Davies likes what he sees, Billy Davies might have a chat with Billy Davies and Billy Davies would offer them a contract, Billy Davies willing, of course.

I bet Nffc13 is hating this at the mo! Nearly every time Lewis is brought up he slaughters him. I'm not saying we should play him week in week out, but you can't deny his ability to win matches.

At the end of the day its about the team and winning matches. COYR

Let's not get carried away - he's been a good sub.

That's where folk start getting their tits in a twist and start calling for Raddy to be dropped for him, which is just silly as Raddy makes the side tick more and scores the odd goal himself. We're luckt to have both Raddy and Lewis in the side.

Lewis can do things other players in the side just can't do - he's got bags of natural ability and could be a Prem player if he applied himself right. As it is though he's still some way from that, and needs to work on his game as much now as he did several years ago.

Still only great potential at the mo and a great player from the subs bench. But lording him up as a consistent essential player who must play does the likes of Raddy an injustice.

McGugan has a track record of having short spells of brilliance.
Let's hope we are now seeing the real deal and he can sustain it.
Most of the criticism of him on this forum has been well placed and deserved.
I reckon all critics really want ed him to succeed, but were getting increasingly frustrated...
This time Lewis, don't let yourself down and deliver what everyone knows you are able to.

Indeed. But the analysis was confined to "get rid"

We all have players we dont rate but lewis takes terrible abuse even when he comes on for 5 mins. People made out he was a terrible misfit a la ballotelli or the size of a linebacker. He in fact is just a young lad who needed a good manager to eek out the talent rather than freeze him out stubbornly like the aloof mcleish. Good to see local homegrown players win games

Yep, because hes never done this before.

To be fair, against Ipswich and Wolves he was pretty poor but then popped up with a goal.

Thats been largely his career, in general hes not very good throughout the game but has a knack for scoring a spectacular goal

Its great to have a player who can do that- but then maybe he should be a striker? Because as a midfielder, he's pretty dreadful and slows everything down.

Great to have him come off the bench though.

Hopefully he can keep it up and turn into a decent player.

I have criticised Raddy but fair play at the moment he has done well too and deserves his place. But like Lewis he needed to up his game and rectufy his lack of goals and assists that many on here were oblivioys too while crucifying mcgugan.

Wait a sec - this totally ignores all the games where Lewis could not be bothered to put even the slightest bit of effort in.

On the evidence of last year Lewis has let us down when our backs were to the wall.

Ability isn't contribution, and contributing when the going is good is OK, but when we go up we need players who will pitch in when the shits hitting the fan.

Let's hope Billy turns Lewis into the player he should be. Lord knows McClaren & Cotterill's tenure did nothing but set his career back several years.

As we've said a million times though Raddy not only contributes more overall, he also is a player that MAKES the change. Lewis comes in and rides the waves of good form, Raddy makes those waves of good form happen.

I like both players, but Lewis needs to contribute more overall before he's ahead of Raddy for the picking IMO.

Lewis' best role is that as second to Reid IMO currently

Majewski is a nice footballer, but there isn't a top number ten in world football who doesn't get goals and assists. Davies demanded as I did that he started getting into the box and score some goals - which he did to be fair. But for some reason you seem to be taking Lewis's success as an affront to Raddy? Davies has proved that he can massively up both men's games. When you were going on about Raddy knitting things together we were plummeting down the league because we just couldn't score from midfield...

This isn't ice dancing - attacking players have to score and make goals even if it deflected - Lampard has scored about a hundred goals like the Ipswich one. Majewski is more pleasing on the eye but Lewis can strike a ball. There is a place for both in the squad as shown today with an assist for Raddy and a goal for Lewis. But please, give some credit to Lewis because his strike rate off the bench is pretty decent to say the least and he is making an impact every game and certainly not "slowing things down".
