Matchday 5: Fulham Fan Comments

Red bandit

"
Thanks Calvin

"Can honestly say I've never seen time-wasting and gamesmanship like that before."

We see it every week when we are losing with 20 to go at home

Amazing how other teams see the ref is just as bad as we do against their side, especially after having lost

Seem like some fair comments though from the majority of Fulham fans
Our Red whine is better than their whine any time.

Brentford fans are very similar. Don’t get behind their team, moan like f*** at the opposition and ref, reckon they are Barcelona in disguise and are keyboard warriors. Tbh outside the ground I thought Fulham fans were sound.

No problem with the fans, they just didn’t make much noise, and moaned cos they were losing, which is understandable and commonplace.

It was a beautiful day, had a beer beforehand in one of the local pubs, walked through the park to get to the ground. People were out on the grass, having picnics. It was a lovely day, but it didn’t have a buzz, all a bit genteel.

Charlton didn’t have a big crowd and there were a lot of empty seats, but they made a good atmosphere. Helps when you’re winning I suppose too.

I agree. The matchday experience was pretty chilled and outside the ground their fans were very friendly and accommodating. We had a decent chippy lunch on the banks of the Thames chatting to some Fulham fans.

The irony of Fulham fans telling an Australian poster on their forum to accept defeat gracefully isn’t lost on me.

Fulham attract floaters. They’ve never had a hardcore fan base being one of the unfashionable London clubs, they used to get 4K attendances in the 80’s. They grew, like London, and attracted a meek fan base seeking top flight football. Easier to get a ticket at Fulham than Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea etc.
Brentford aren’t much different.

Those two clubs attract a certain type of soy latte drinking casual football hipster that loves to feel superior for bandwagoning a small team rather than one of the Sky Sports Big Six and drops words like 'regista' into conversation down the local craft ale saloon. Once clubs like FC Brencelona fall back into lower league obscurity where they belong they'll jump ship to whatever the next flavour of the month club happens to be, or wherever Mark Warburton's managing next.

I vividly recall driving down London Road prior to a game against Cardiff one warm, sunny August Saturday afternoon a few seasons ago, and witnessing skirmishes between groups of rival fans, even running between cars to get at each other, creating a scene of general mayhem.

I drove over Trent Bridge to park up in West Bridgford minutes later, where less than a mile away, the scene couldn't be more contrasting or more middle-class, with families sitting, eating and drinking outside the cafès and bistròs on Central Avenue enjoying the weather. Surreal.
