As many know I was a big champion of Liam Bridcutt, after seeing him absolutely boss games against Forest for Brighton & Hove Albion, playing as the midfield „Quarterback“ in front of the defence.

Forest never really tried him there (it’s where Watson plays now).

There's definitely something there. So there has to be another reason why a succession of managers haven't fancied him at all.

Never got much of a chance did he? Thought he was solid but once you're bombed out you never come back do you.

It's all about mid-table...
Cant understand how it all went downhill for him, he's a decent footballer who's been Captain and player of the season a good few times at good clubs.

Just never clicked here.

I think it was the succession of managers he played under. It’s not easy for any player, especially if you’re brought in for a specific purpose that another manager doesn’t have for you.

Then Karanka bringing in Watson and Colback, essentially two upgrades on Bridcutt, sealed his fate for him.

A shame, but it happens to players all over the world.

Too small, no passing range beyond 10yds, poor positioning, error prone & clumsy in the tackle. Limited is putting it mildly in a Forest shirt, don't think he earnt much more game time than he achieved to be honest.

Watsons shown similar traits at times but unlike Bridcutt he seems to have snapped out of it.

Nottingham Forest.

Turning decent players into shite since 1865.

Why give Lamouchi a chance with someone like Bridders when we can clutter the side up with Semedo's & Bostock's instead, and develop other team's players for them instead of our own?

Don't think this stacks up, Bostocks been unlucky, looked a better player than Bridcutt with far fewer opportunies. Semedo likewise looked decent until the injury, in a much more progressive role than Bridcutts.

Without suggesting our loans have been all that, Muric came with a decent pedigree, Bonatini came with an almost 1 in 2 championship strike rate. Hindsight can be a wonderful thing sometimes.

Fair points, but hindsight should learn the club the lesson that neglecting development of it's own players whilst chasing "glory" loans has constantly failed us.

An improvement in Bridcutt may have seen us get a fee. An improvement in Bostock wouldn't

Nailed it.

I was a big fan of Bridcutt at Brighton but the game has changed since then with his fitness/bob-to-box play which he relied on to impose his game has just become a mandatory thing now, so the other elements of his game which weren't as good (which MASE has got spot on) become more exposing.

Common sense strategy, but it doesn't cater for the Championship owner who wants it now. Loans are often the cheapest & quickest way of getting quality into the club, granted thats not worked out, but I doubt that will stop us trying.

Well summed up mate, owner with no common sense

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
On the contrary, I think he's a candidate for coming back from the bomb squad (Ben Watson)

There’s a very good article on The Athletic (am I allowed to say that?) about Bridcutt and how his career has gone backwards. It seems he was playing the role for Brighton that Watson does for us and doing it very well.

That would be interesting to see, because from what I've seen Bridcutt is the very antithesis of Watson: much more mobile, a lot less reliable positionally, a player playing with his lungs and his feet more than with his brain.

Bridcutt was brilliant in the „Quarterback“ role for Brighton & Hove Albion, I recall him running games for them against Forest, which is why I was so enthusiastic about his signing.

Officially an Imp. Don't have a bad word to say. Supposedly he was a great professional whilst training with our u23s & he showed that in games too.

I still remember that game against Cardiff where he was pushed further forward and was superb. Good luck to him.
