I hope we get more than Colback, as much as I like him. Not necessarily an old head type, just someone who to some degree has been there and done it at that level. Probably not an easy find.
And certainly not cheap. A starting XI quality Premier League proven midfielder will probably cost north of £30m.

Its incredibly unlikely we'll be signing any proven Premier League players this summer. The only ones likely to be available to us will be ones that are well past their sell-by date, so wouldn't be worth signing.

Mata is being mentioned as going to Leeds. He would have been a good shout.
Would have loved Mata here. Outstanding player. But probably a bit too rich of a signing for us at present.

Fans constantly moan about the prices put on players by English clubs and expect us to pick up a solid Premier League player on a reasonable price, it’s just never gonna happen. Even when you see players move around the Prem for “reasonable” fees, the wages will be absurd.

I get the call for experience but in my eyes it doesn’t have to be PL experienced.

Very true. Signing proven Premier League players is extremely expensive, which is why we aren't going down that route this season (given the size of the rebuilding job we have on our hands).

I think this is where signings like Niakhate are smart; not Premier League experienced, but experienced at a decent enough level to help some of the younger lads. Perhaps a midfield equivalent from the Bundesliga or another decent European league would be a good move?

Yes he has experience, but he hasn't played in the Premier League for 6 years, in fact after the 2015/16 season (and in the prime of his career) he couldn't get into the Newcastle EPL squad.

Now we are back in Premier League, he is ideal for the subs bench, but if he is starting in midfield, then he will struggle and be sent off every other week with reckless late challenges.

Maitlin-Niles was the one we've been linked to that fitted the profile a bit, but seems cooper might not be keen. Ultimately, I'm happy to go with what Coops wants...

We're thinking similar about Colback. He'll have a role but in an ideal world I'd like one of our starters to have a bit of PL experience. As said, not sure how likely that is as the good ones are taken/priced out. Looks like our approach is that we'll build that experience as we go with young/hungry types with good attitudes, eg Yates, O'Brien, MGW etc (if we can pull those off)

Not entirely convinced that Maitland-Niles is disciplined enough to be part of a 2 man midfield that needs to cover a lot of pitch, not a bad player but not sure he's the right fit for us

I wonder if he didn’t pass Cooper’s character check. Didn’t he get done drink driving?

An Arsenal supporting friend reckons he's good enough to play for most teams in the Premier League, but whilst not being a trouble maker as such reckons that Arteta isn't a fan of him as an individual; perhaps Cooper also feels the same way?

I could be wrong but it looks like cooper wants upward-trajectory hungry types. While AMN has something to prove, I'm not sure he fits that description; depends how much he feels he's made it already I suppose, or how hungry he is to get say an England shirt back.

Hodgey alluded to players thinking they're made it/being financially sound earlier in the chippers podcast, and I do wonder with Maitlin-Niles wgetger that's a factor? He's just one of the few with prem experience that fits the rest of what we like - athletic, young, capable of playing multiple roles. Can't think of too many more like that, though there probably are some.

That is a very low bar, though.

So low, Satan himself is using it for limbo practice.

Dharmesh rewording what the other guy said and claiming it as his own... Which a lot of them do I guess. Also getting the signing number incorrect.

O'Brien has been at Huddersfield since the age of 11 and I can see from his social media posts he's a passionate fan of the club.

He'll soon be a Forest supporter and I expect him to be with us for many years
