Anyone else think he's a dead ringer for Arthur Shelby?
Think you mean John Shelby? And I'd agree.

From what I have seen of him, O'Brien will be useful in giving us another avenue of attack. It's all very well relying on wing backs etc, but you need different points of attack to create uncertainty.

It's a bit worrying that this would be another signing I agree with. I'm usually so wrong in these things.

He's got a burst of pace from a starting position, which is always encouraging for a central midfield player.

Looks like he reads the game well and has pace to backtrack and put a good tackle in. His passing looks sublime too.

He'll give the opposition headaches with his all energy style. In all honesty, I see this signing as a replacement for Garner (and him and O'Brien had some closely fought duels last season)

Great summary. Leeds were after him last year. I reckon he's just had the season of his life in a team that only narrowly missed out on promotion to boot so strange we've had so little apparent competition.

I remember our fans on here calling for us to sign him months ago. Happy bloody days!!

The Twitter "Journos" have been using the official Quantuma calendar because we are into about the 6th consecutive day of him signing for us within the next 48 hours having triggered his release clause or not yet agreeing a fee!

O'Brien has been at Huddersfield since the age of 11 and I can see from his social media posts he's a passionate fan of the club.

He'll soon be a Forest supporter and I expect him to be with us for many years
I imagine he'd have a similar revelation to that which Steve Cook did; suddenly realising what it's like to be at a proper club with actual fans after decades at a tinpot doss-hole.

...and its a job, so as soon as he looks at his pay packet and sees its been doubled his pain at not being able to follow Hudderfield so closely will be soothed....

Just read a Nixon article which has genuinely confused me, it seems to be poorly worded even for him!

Forest signing of Obrien is delayed because his £10m release clause which he reckons we have triggered is actually higher for promoted teams. He then goes on to say that we are looking to complete the signing of Obrien AND Toffolo for between £8 and £10m.

On that basis we are either paying over £10m just for Obrien or paying £10m or less to get him and Toffolo which probably just about covers most eventualities for a signing/signings that other more respected journalists have been covering for weeks.

One thing I'm clear on is that if it completes he will say "Aye " and act like he broke the story.

In fairness to him he was the first one to link us to O'Brien.

As far as I can tell O'Brien has a £10m buyout clause but it goes up to £12m for teams who went up from the Champ to the Prem (I asked someone about that because I'd never heard of such a thing before either but they told me it's pretty common). Forest want to pay closer to the lower fee but Hudds want a sell on % and some add ons in that case by the sounds of it.

Did they give any indication of why a specific clause like that would exist, HP?

I suppose a highly rated player moving between two clubs previously competing in the the same division - given the frequency of teams being promoted and going straight back down - the selling club want extra from the buying club as there is a chance they will be competing against them, and their ex-player in a seasons time?

Otherwise, it just seems sort of . . . . spiteful!

Yeah I think it's exactly that, could be playing each other again quite soon so they don't wanna give a potential rival a "bargain". Whereas if a more established Prem side went for him it's likely he'd stay a Premier League player for some time (unless he flops (which he won't))

We are bidding far below the £10m value never mind other clauses. Causing friction between us and Huddersfield

Although Toffolo will be pushing harder for now

To carry on the fairness where it is due, he is distancing himself from the £8m-£10m double deal saying that this has been added in but not by him as some Huddersfield fans have questioned him on it.

You can understand them trying to get as much as they can, in todays market £12m still seems low imho.
