Grabban has worked so hard today, he’s run the channels and pulled his defenders all over the place, and he’s been coping with two or three men on him.

Solid performance today and a very well deserved goal.

I don’t think he’s *the* answer up top but he’s a decent player at this level. He gets very limited service.

Really, he adds nothing for me, doesn't bring other players into the game with good hold up play and I've never seen him go past anyone or get shots in from nothing, not the answer.

Thought he played ok today, held his shit together & put the pen away nicely.

Again, scraps to work with, I'm really not sure what more he can do.

I try to be patient before I form an opinion about a striker, because it's a strange position, but he's not the solution for you. No control of the ball, no pace, no killer instinct, no link-up play.
Is Ansarifard likely to be? Especially considering as a sole striker role.

What are his main attributes?

Nobody is creating chances for him. Karanka has got to get the midfielders to start setting up things for him to take a decent crack at.

It's all about mid-table...
It's a good job the keeper went the other way or he'd of saved the peno comfortably.

But credit to Grabban he fooled him with his body language.

Twice Janko got the ball, powered on and had to stop as no one was in the middle.....

Think the general idea will be that Grabban will play more off the shoulder and Carvalho will be the one supplying the through ball.

What I don't think Karanka has got over yet is that:
1) Forest's movement at times is non-existent.
2) A lot of clubs are not going to let us play intricate football in the final third.

Today Grabban was never going to get the space to operate in and receive balls from Carvalho. What we needed was both better quality and more bodies out wide to stretch the play. I don't remember either Dias or Osborn hitting the byline and cutting it across the face once all game.

The big missing piece was lack of width and tempo today. Nothing Grabban could do about that.

I feel sorry for him, he's so isolated. To be honest until we work out how to supply the centre forward I think we'll have the same problem whoever plays up top.

It seemed like the wingers were pushed in, which just made it more congested and the full backs were always up against two, so couldn't go forward. Rotherham really restricted any outnumbering wide but I think we could have tried a bit more, when the full backs did get in, there was either one or none in the box.

A wins a win but it wasn't pretty.

Aye, it's the main thing left still to click. The midfield seem to be mainly playing amongst themselves and not really creating anything for whoever is up front.

He's scored 2 goals that has got us 6 points in the last 2 games, that's all I care about

Karanka doesn’t really have a lot of shooting options right now so Grabban kind of places himself in the line up.

Murphy is still injured as I believe is Soudani. Appiah?

Appiah isn't getting anywhere near this squad, let alone a starting berth up front.

We'll play Goncalves in a false 9, 4-6-0 sort of formation before it gets to that.

I think you're letting him off the hook too easily. He is not fed properly, you say; well, yes, that happens in modern football against very defensive teams. He works hard, you say; well, yes, but so does every single striker in modern football. The fact remains that his control is very poor (which means that he poses liitle threat even he is fed properly), his pace is not very fast (which means that he poses little threat when running the channels), his link-up game and his speed of thought are limited (which means that you cannot count on him to create chances for others), his positioning is not always spot on (which means he is not a target man), his dribbling skills are very limited (which means that he cannot create on his own), etc

Fair to say he hasn't hit the ground running here, but the suggestion he's limited in pretty much all aspects of forward play is a bit much.

He's not the most proactive, he's shinned a few in his time here, but that's as critical as Id want to be. Youve done well to dig him out to that extent given he has next to nothing to work with.

Think we should reserve judgement until the advanced midfield is operating at full speed: When he can run on to through balls, find space on 6 yard box for the cutback etc.

He's never going to be that physical lead the line type complete forward. I think we should have bought one of those types of players, but we've got Grabban now and we should play to his strengths. We're not at the moment.

Considering the others that were available, he does seem a strange choice. However, he’s better than many we have had here in recent times. I agree his positioning radar seems to be malfunctioning, but it takes some balls to take a pen which will most likely win you the game when your last attempt was totally shit.
