Lewis Grabban

I do feel for him a bit because his confidence is obviously shot

But aside from a goalkeeper a striker is the one player whose role can be clearly defined and measured, and pragmatically there's only so long you can persevere with a player who isn't delivering

What hasn't helped is making him captain, which was just plain stupid

Last season, Grabban was the first, and only real striker in the squad, and we were extremely vulnerable had Grabban been injured, suspended or needing a break.

Taylor gives us flexibility up front and creates a competitive edge which is always a good thing.

I think we’ll see an improvement in performances from Grabban under Hughton.

Thinking about team selection last night, I can only think 4-4-2 was a last desperate attempt to shoe-horn Grabbs into the team. After his last few games there is no way he could be selected on form.

Perhaps the injury is a blessing in disguise; he can recuperate, it allows others to play without giving the appearance of Grabban being dropped and, hopefully, he will come back with a renewed appetite for the game and for scoring goals.

I fully agree.

I certainly don't include you amongst their number Alf, but Grabban has earned the right to not become the new scapegoat/whipping-boy for certain members of this forum.

Totally agree.

One of the commentators last night made the observation that Grabban has had longer scoreless runs and always come bouncing back.

He looks bereft of confidence at the moment but if he is fully fit the ability is still there.

He has a role to play in the first team this season, whether his 'haters' like it or not.

There is absolutely no football logic in writing Grabban off. He is a fine player who scored plenty of goals with consistency over a number of years.

His fitness is a problem though. His style depends on pace and burst and he has none at the moment.

I don't think anyone is writing him off. Just recognising that now, he is out of form, and missing chances / dropping completely out of matches, and we have 2 other strikers in the squad, so can give him a rest to get his form and fitness back.

I'd go for the money alone. I have done in the past few months and you have enough money to last you a fair while without working. I'd imagine a 2nd tier footballer will be set up for much longer than that.

Would be silly for Nottingham Forest but probably a great move for Lewis. Qatar is a Muslim country so that may have some swing in his decision.

Guerreros something of an unknown, dont think theres a raft of goals in his archives. Taylors scored goals, but looking at him under our conditions, he looks more of a poacher than a self sufficient striker like Grabban.

Without wanting him in the short term starting line up, Id be extremely reluctant to go without him until Jan.

Only one caveat, an unhappy Grabban would be next to useless.

Who'd be a manager.
