We are both wrong!
According to Wikipaedia he was born in 1964 and joined us in 1996: he would have been 31 going on 32 when he joined.
However, I was more right because he played like a 36 year old :)
I couldn't add up, Captain. Changed my response.

You're being unfair. He wasn't that bad, just not suited to the English game, especially not as a centre half who was expected to get physical with strikers. It was another case of square peg in round hole.

He did get Ian Wright sent off in Psycho's first match in charge though.

Jerkan looked top-notch when I saw one of the Croatia games at the CG. Then again he was alongside some class players in that side - Bilić, Prosinečki, Boban, Šuker et al.
It was on the strength of that one game, seen by FC, that Forest bought him.
Take away the stars and you were left with a bloke who wasn't good enough.
14 games he played for Forest, all in the first season.
He did go on loan 2nd season, and spent the 3rd season doing an arter impersonation: he played no football.

Sauce salad?
Am I miss-remembering he played sweeper (very well) for his national side and we played in a flat four where he looked lost?

Do we need to lower our level of transfer targets
I reckon so. I appreciate the ambition being shown but if we never land them we could be targeting Mbappe and De Bruyne for all it matters.

I think it's particularly true for midfielders we target. I used to be midfielder albeit at a decent but amateur level for years and I tell you now it's much more enjoyable playing in a team that keeps the ball rather than one who chases it everywhere.

I'd imagine a targeted player would do some research on us and frankly what decent midfielder in their right mind would reject other top flight offers and come and play for us with the way we play? Everything we do is geared towards quick transitions and giving up the ball so it's a thankless task.

We'll probably be left taking another punt on a South American using us as a stepping stone like Danilo.

I disagree. The board showing ambition is necessary if we are going to project both internally and externally that we are serious about raising our stature.

Sure, some/most won't come off but when the first one is signed, the dominos will start falling.

So we're left with either aiming for quality and not getting it, or targeting players that don't really improve the squad/take us to the next level.

What most of the mass outrage on twitter seem to forget is that the player has to want to sign too, and they have agents working the phones to f***ing everyone. It's way more likely that they know someone else is interested than it is us dillydallying over a couple million when targeting this level of quality.

There's only one thing for it: bring in Wataru Endo.

Wonder if there will be good value in the loan market towards the end of the window this year - some clubs stockpiling talent that will need loaning, some clubs leaving it late to get their targets, resulting in a surplus from the likes of Bayern, Chelsea and other top teams.

I'm not proud, we'd take their castoffs and that could be an easier and cheaper way to get the players we need. Although not ideal longer term.

Don't disagree but change isn't go to occur overnight and will have to be incremental. I actually thought there were (brief) periods of play in the PSV and Frankfurt games were you could see a pattern emerging around ball retention.
