They're nice words. He could easily have left and said nothing the way his career has derailed here. He probably regrets the move massively, who knows what would have happened if he stayed in the Benfica set up for a couple more years.

Sing him up!

I’m surprised no highlights of the 5-5 Villa game.

Come on Maxi you know what would have happened if he'd stayed at Benfica-he would have made the bench 4 times and got 2 starts in cup competitions. They would have looked to offload him to someone, anyone because he isn't good enough for them.
Rose tinted glasses and unrequited love aside that's the truth..

God luck to him. I enjoyed watching him and over the last couple of seasons he was a rare bright spot to watch. Full of technical ability that tricked you into thinking you were watching a Forest side that had caught up to modern football and wasn’t stuck in 2004.

I hope he goes on to bigger things

I'm always slightly suspicious of French cars; they look good, have loads of quirky features, but can be a bit temperamental. Bit like the French, I suppose.

Strange how cars adopt the traits of their country of origin

I had a Seat once at it was constantly having siestas

I feel it's only fitting Joao gets an Alf send off as I'm obviously obsessed with him.

Quite frankly, he's been our worst signing ever. No not our worst player ever, not by a long shot, but the 13.2m we payed for him was the best con-job anyone's ever pulled against the club.

Silenzi for 1.8m? Not even close. He was playing in the Prem and when he played against lower opposition in the cup he did fine and actually scored a few. Carvalho failed to stamp any kind of influence in 80-90% of his games, and was a total mismatch.

In years to come (hopefully not too long) we'll be sat in the Prem on the back of our academy lads, and laughing at how the name which got sung at almost every match for a 1-2 year period was the biggest waste of money we've ever spent.

Good luck to the kid. Defending his ability I get. He wasn't suited to the league, but he did have talent. Defending his actual signing still baffles me.

Farewell sweet prince.

I do tend to agree with this. The price tag isn't the lad's fault, and he definitely had some ability, but you can't just ignore it, I find it bizarre that some people insist on doing so. We've been pretty awful for the last decade and yet I reckon there's at least ten attacking midfielders/wingers we've had in that time that have been more effective, that didn't cost together what he cost:

Antonio - £1.5m (sold for £7.5m)
McClearly - about £50k I think
Reid - free transfer (previously made £4m on him as was an academy player)
McGugan - Academy Graduate
Majewski - £1.5m
Lansbury - £1m (sold for £3.5m)
Zinkernagel - Loan
Johnson - Academy Graduate
Lolley - £500k
Dowell - Loan

So about £4.5m spent there, maybe a little more with loan fees. Plus from 3 of those players the club made £15m from their sales, so around £10m profit. You could also argue that the likes of Tiago Silva, Jamie Paterson and even Lee Tomlin were better. If I'm being really harsh, I would say Carvalho was about as effective as Barrie McKay. Maybe that's too mean. But that's about the level he turned out to be. About a £1m-£2m fee that really you're just paying for potential would have been fine. £13m was obscene. I know there's politics involved in the fee with Mendes etc, but it can't have helped Carvalho. As much as he was an albatross around the club's neck, that's what that transfer fee must have felt like for him.

As worst signings go, he's definitely up there with Silenzi, Jerkan, Platt's Italians and Zach Clough. He seems like a nice lad, a good pro but probably too timid to play in England. I sincerely hope he does well in Greece, maybe with a slower pace, and less pressure, he might flourish. I hope he does.
