January 2020, an important window

When a team does well, and has a very specific, very difficult and very lucrative goal for the end of the season, it is always tempting to want to go all in. The danger with this approach is to disrupt balances, and mess with a good chemistry.

So, barring other major injuries, what do you think you need (bearing in mind that the most important thing is what SL thinks he needs)?

I've seen very little of you to have an opinion, but it looks like a solid, quality, threatening winger would be handy. I know you all need a striker, but Mir still has some time to prove if he's useful.

The biggest issue might prove to be cover for Samba Sow if the knee injury he picked up today is a bad one. An extra striker is obvious, and it's hard not to wonder what Lamouchi could do with Tyler Walker given how many other players he has improved since taking over.

An attacking winger that's proven at this level would also be useful. Grosicki is out of contract in the summer and already has four goals this season from out wide for Hull.

Someone like Olly Watkins, who can play wide or centre forward. Olly Watkins would be great, but I’d guess it’s not a go-er.

Was saying this on the way out, I think he’d be perfect.

I would however trust Modesto & co if they get somebody we have never heard of.

Winger and a striker, that's it. No need to rock the boat too much, the team are playing for each other. Just need that extra option or two in the advanced positions, preferably someone with raw pace.

Striker we are one injury away from mid table if we lose Grabban in the next few games for the period up to this next transfer window

Difficult one

Improving the squad from a position of strength is a good way to go usually but there’s always the chance that it can disrupt the balance

Didn’t Newcastle implode after recruiting Asprilla(who was a good player) and then changing the team to squeeze him in?

I think it will be governed by any injuries/loss of form.

We need to keep hold of the key performers more importantly. Suspect with the way some of them are playing, there’ll be vultures circling.

Getting a striker in is a must. As others have said I still have a nagging doubt Grabban gets injured and we derail. At least he has a couple of weeks to recharge now. Probably the only time I’m ever welcoming these international breaks.

Definitely a Lacey winger too.

I have every confidence in the team assembling the players.

Sabri will know the strengths and weaknesses of the present squad, the type of players we need and the staff back at base will go out and buy the necessary.

Meanwhile EM will continue to buy and sell tankers to keep his two top teams going. The sun shines on the righteous.

We need another winger and a striker to compete with Grabban. Decent back up/ competition for Sow might be a good idea too.

We'll most likely look to the loan market or for bargains from Europe again. All this talk of signing the likes of Bowen and Watkins is pure fantasy, zero chance we'll be spending that kind of money (and that's assuming either player would even actually want to join another Championship club).

Nothing wrong with a little fantasy now and then chap ;)

Positionally winger & striker, attributely pace & goals are the priority. Mir looked decent yesterday, but 2 strikers is still too thin IMO.

I hope, and think, we're savy enough to have potential replacements lined up for all positions to plug any holes too.

With the latter in mind, 2-4 players incoming would be fine. Just need to be the right players.

Someone in the mould of Sadio Mané.

Direct fast goal scoring wing forward. All out for Rhian Brewster on loan from Liverpool.

That’s all we need IMO

Don’t want to sound like Alf, but getting unknowns from Europe is fine if they don’t need getting up to speed with the championship.

All signings will need some time to settle really, whether they are from Europe or English clubs. Especially in January. Thankfully what we are looking for in January is more depth/competition rather than vital additions to the starting XI, so it's not a big deal if they need a few weeks to get into things.

Still a long way to go til Jan.

But if we're in a similar position, I think we'd really need to go out and find a Huckerby type signing. Someone who's better than this level, but perhaps not getting a look at the level above, on loan.

How long did it take for ansarifard to settle? Or Soudani? Silva is starting to show that he’s getting used to the league. Semedo and Bostock aren’t yet up to speed. Sow is the only one that has hit the ground running.
If we need that final push between February and May - you can’t afford to carry passengers

If Brentford aren’t within touching distance of the playoffs come Jan, Ollie Watkins could be prised off them. It’d cost a lot, but Brentford will always sell at the right price.

Oh January is better than this. It has a managerial exit door and a transfer window. Oh January is better than this.
