James David Garner

Re: James Garner

Mbe Soh has always looked decent when he has played.

Strong, fast, good with the ball

He would probably already be a regular had he not had so many injuries, he deserves some luck.

Looks like he's at a similar level to Figs, but probably better on the ball.

Stevie Cook edges his place in the team based on his experience and leadership and reading of the game.

Worrall is the main starter, and then McKenna would be just behind him.

That's my opinion anyway.

I see it like that too, although I think a Worrall and Mbe Soh partnership in a flat back four might be primary choice if we want that way and if he could keep fit as would help transition ball to attacking areas quicker and more precisely.

Positioning needed some work (based on a very small sample), but that will come if he can stay fit enough to get experience.

Some random Portuguese player reckons he’s alright:

That ball out to the right which Johnson should have left for Spence was unreal

Re: James Garner

Garner was MOTM for me, an unbelievable workrate, so neat and tidy, takes the ball bravely in tight areas, always on the half turn and just oozed quality.

It certainly was. Would have been the assist of the season.

Thought he looked tired to start with then suddenly he was everywhere. Definitely a close second for man of the match.

Gonna miss him when he goes, he will take some replacing

If we go up I would be breaking our transfer record on him but I can honestly see him playing for Man Utd.

Re: James Garner

He has developed into a superb player, he has vision, technique, and he is unafraid to stick a foot in, where needed.

Really enjoyed watching him this season, I reckon he’s got a big future in the game ahead of him, you have to think Man U are going to want a good look at him over the summer - especially if, as rumoured, Erik ten Hag becomes their next manager, because James Garner is, I think, exactly the kind of busy player who would fit into a ten Hag side.

Re: James Garner

I was thinking about our side last night and comparison with the derby team when Frank was there. I think Garner could have a similar trajectory to Mason Mount (albeit under different circumstances).

I think he'll be a full international by the end of next season for sure

Re: James Garner

The progress Garner has made under Cooper is the best example of why I am not as panicked as others at the prospect of not going up this year and losing the current loanees.

I think EPL clubs, when looking to get their young-uns out on loan, will see working under the tutelage of Cooper as the ideal option for their development.

Whoever is the new manager, it will take some balls to take over a failing United team and then put in a 21 year old lad who has a handful of games at that level. Another year on loan and he is what, 22/23 which is starting to get in to the later stage of his development. I'd love to sign him if we went up.

He was MOTM for me last night, his work rate, reading of the game, passing and the finish for the goal were all exceptional. He should get a chance at United next season, lovely player.

I used to think that, and I still think the biggest danger to Jimmy at Manure is the size of their pockets. That being said if they get that Ten Haag bloke hes a proper coach and he will want to work with young, hungry, technically excellent players-just like Jimmy.

My personal view on Jimmy has changed. I think hes got a very chance of making at at Manure now. As well as his undoubted ability and all round game, his consistency suggest a player of very high quality. I could see him in that ManU midfield doing exactly what hes done for us, for them

Erik ten Hag has built an Ajax side that play adventurous, attacking football, and within that he blends experience and youth, and is unafraid to give young players a chance.

If it is ten Hag, I would strongly think he’d give young Garner a look.

Re: James Garner

...and the other point is Jimmy deserves it.
Hes gone about his business here in a totally professional committed way-he's been like one of our own and frankly I'm struggling to think of a better loan player here ever.
On that basis he deserves our thanks and good will even if he goes to his home club and sits on the bench.
Whatever happens there will always be a bit of Forest in him, I will look at him like one of our own and watch his career with interest...

Was a bit on the fence about James playing at United next year and hope that we can nab him for one last push if we dont make it this year.

He totally deserves a shot at the United team though if that is what he wants. Agree with most of the above. He's gone about it so professionally and given us so much that whatever happpens I will cheer for him!

Makes a change from the self-entitled twunts we got from them back in the 2000s. Michael Stewart and Lee Martin I think... Don't think they made much after.

James is a good lad.

Re: James Garner

For all the praise, rightly, earned this year, he's never going to find a pathway to regular football at Gender Neutral United.

The years without a trophy, coupled with the most entitled fanbase in England, has created a special kind of pressure.

However much I believe in Ten Hag and his methods, I also fear for him in this environment. Especially, as the commerciality of the United model demands big names. This summer, I see them completely overhauling middle of the park and with one or two signings made outside of Ten Hag's authority.

The other side of the coin is that it's Man United, who are a global brand, and they aren't going to play a rookie unless they are 100% sure in him, which I'm not convinced they are.

I don't necessarily think it means he'll join us if we get promoted, I still think they'll want £15m or so for him which might take him out of our price range.
