Lester should have been our temporary appointment last year when Brazil got the job for ten games or so - I think we'd have done much better with him in charge.

Conspiracy theory alert: But I think he was. He would have had a large involvement, Brazil may have taken face and media duties for it to take the extra burden away but I would say Lester was doing the majority of coaching, tactics and everything else.

I am also of this opinion.

The title of Head of Football Operations suggests otherwise to me.

Man City's head of football operations consists of working with FIFA, the FA, UEFA to make sure all regulations are being met. Makes sure all financial budgets are met properly.

And he has done this in previous roles with the Greek Super League & various Greek clubs, and he still works for UEFA as a match delegate.

He's a football administrator, not a football man.

Nope, he only played for Chesterfield after he left Forest.

We got him from Grimsby - Platt got hooked on him after the Lester had helped them to batter us in the league cup.

It was a league game, didn't Lester and Ashcroft tear us a new hole in a 4-3 win for them, thus defining our transfer policy of signing players who did that over the next decade: shame since we were crap, so were they. Aaron Davies.

Now that Lester's departure is official, shouldn't the new head coach of the U23 team have been announced?

Will be a big loss. Of that there is no doubt. I liked his style.

But in the past we've had Hart, Marshall, Fairclough, Jess, Chettle all step up into senior football so we have built a brilliant club ethos. And in Chettle and Fairclough's case they started with our schoolboys. Johnson & Hodge have worked with our schoolboys before and Harewood is now. Personally I think it would be nice if a former player replaces Lester if available and good enough to Brazil.

Brazil has excellent staff and has really built a solid academy.

In my opinion I think Tom Mallinson (head of co-ordinating schoolboy talent does a fantastic job there) so he should stay put. Just not sure whether we should promote Holmes/Wigley or appoint someone like Reid to look after the 23s. Be interesting to see what they do.

Jack Lester has deserved this chance. I rate him so highly.

with cases like this , it's always to promote from within. can see gareth holmes move from his current u-18 role to u-23 and jake wigley take over the u-18 role.

as it proved to be, holmes has done very well as the u-23 role and lester absence hasn't been felt at all. if anything, the u-23 has grown stronger...

That’s hopefully because we’ve done some proper succession planning and that goes for Holmes replacement too

Still think Calderwood letting him go at the end of that season was madness
