Ivan Toney - Eight Month Ban

Frank talking the usual bollocks. Sat there pontificating about the relationship between betting and football sat in front of a hoarding with the clubs main sponsor which is a betting company. Talking that he eat he would be better visiting schools and doing worthwhile things (he could do that anyway).

If he’d got a suspended sentence there would be no change, they don’t lose their star asset and they’d all be happy.

I don’t think you can argue it deserves a ban. As others have said actions have consequences. You can help and support people, rehabilitate them and help them move forward but there has to be punishment dished out to deter others.

If football was the only thing you could bet on then you could maybe make more of an argument that he was trapped in the addiction, it isn’t, if he was really compulsive gambler but also a footballer he’d bet on other things and he’d now be getting the support he apparently needs but wouldn’t be banned. The football bets were his decision.

Just like an alcoholic. If a guy is sat in his living room drinking himself in to a stupor every day he needs help. If he drinks himself silly everyday and decides after two bottles of vodka he’s gonna get in his car and pick up a takeaway then he needs the rehabilitation and support but also will face the consequences of his decisions while drinking.

I think they’ve got off lightly to be honest and I’m guessing if it was a lesser player he’d be on his way.

I think he’s 100% right tbh. He should be rehabilitated, he should be doing something during the ban. What can thomas frank do, personally, about the betting companies insignia everywhere? Just quit? I’m sure he’s made his own points to the board. It’s up to the league to have the bollocks to make a change. They won’t because so much money is involved. f***ing Newcastle are owned by “gentlemen” who stone homosexuals and the like ffs.

And I think he’s correct about betting brands and their relationship with the league. I don’t like the fact that we have a whole ass 3 divisions sponsored by a betting company and many shirts and stadiums have a betting company attached to it. I think it’s disgusting and should play no part in football. But, gambling is so ingrained into society that it would be hard to completely separate the two.

People trying to equate betting sponsorship and footballers betting in football are doing my head in. Morally they are equatable at all. I understand people may not want betting sponsors but Footballers not being allowed to bet on football is because of spot fixing and match fixing. Not because the FA find betting morally wrong. Toney could have bet on everything else without a problem. People think it’s a smart opinion to have to equate the 2 when in fact it’s not relevant and just whataboutery.

I don’t think he’s equating the two at all, he even agrees Ivan did something wrong but questions the point of the punishment.

He doesn’t think he should serve a ban though. I don’t think he should quit. But I’m guessing he wouldn’t give a shit about the betting company thing if this situation hasn’t arisen.

I think he just wants him to do something while he’s banned, instead of just sitting on his arse the whole time. serves no purpose.

He’s broken very clear rules - especially betting on his own team. He denied it before eventually admitting to it.
It started in 2018.
Why on earth has it taken so long since his admission?
Apparently his punishment has been reduced - for his ultimate admission of guilt, and his repentance.

His suspension starts two matches from the end of the season - which shrinks his suspension by almost three months.

He‘s picked for his country after his admission of guilt. The England manager and his Club manager are more concerned for his welfare and well-being than the detrimental impact on the game, and the example he sets to younger players.

No doubt he does need help, but pandering to him is not the solution. For his future well-being he needs to understand his responsibilities to the game.

Yet again the FA dilly and dally over serious issues.

His goals this season have enabled Brentford to finish several places higher in the table and earn over £2m for each place. Now Brentford have the summer to replace him.

How fair is that?

The irony of this whole thing of course is he plays for a club with a gambling sponsor, with an owner that has made his money through gambling and recruit in a way by playing the odds and gambling on statistical advantages.

Toney can gamble as much as he wants but just not on football & certainly not on his own team

Looks bent to me
This is the thing for me. If he was such a gambling addict he’d bet on owt. You could even feel a bit sorry for him for betting on football matches he wasn’t involved in even though it is against the rules. But betting on games he’s involved in is so dodgy. There is no excuse. You can bet on anything now.

As I said on another page he may need help. An alcoholic needs help. If the alcoholic sits in his pants all day in his front room necking vodka he hopefully gets the help he needs. If he decides to drive and get a Chinese after drinking a bottle of vodka he needs help but he needs to be punished for whatever the consequences of his actions are.

As Louth said he’s been given part of his suspension in the last few weeks of the season when his team is playing dead rubbers and in pre season which basically wipes 3 months of his ban off.

Do we know he's not betting on anything else? Or spunking loads of cash at the casinos? I could be wrong but I've seen reports of his football betting in the news.

My thinking is that he's addicted to gambling and he's thought he could gain an edge or get his money back in a true gambler's way by betting on something he might actually be able to control.

Toney’s goals and assists have enable Brentford to take points off of relegated Leicester, Leeds & Southampton this season. He’s also contributed goals & assists to take points from both Manchester clubs, Brighton, Spurs, West Ham, Bournemouth, Arsenal, Fulham, Villa and of course, Forest. Contributing to 33 points for Brentford.
Had he been banned at the beginning of the season, the league table could have looked very different.

Said on another thread somewhere that I think they might struggle first half of next season without Toney, he contributes so much for them and will be a huge loss

While I fundamentally think stoning or doing anything just because someone is gay is wrong, the next world cup is in usa and countless innocent people are killed and murdered due the first amendment right to bear arms, even though in 1860 automatic weapons never existed, I would hope the western world takes this opportunity to address this.

I hope someone does, need to get these guns off these freaks man.

I saw a few seconds of that, maybe on SSN.

He’s massively touting for a move to Arsenal and comes across as very strange when asked about who he supported. Basically anyone who’s good.

I don’t to be honest. If he does then he obviously deserves to get treatment, but betting on your own games also brings about punishment. Kind of like my alcoholic in his pants / alcoholic drink driving analogy.

The alcoholic sat at home drinking himself to death only hurts himself and deserves help.
But when he decided to drive to the Chinese after his bottle of vodka and wipes out a few cars. He still needs and deserves help, but he also needs punishing.

Seems odd that he speaks about wanting to join other clubs, bit of ingratitude to the club paying him for 8 months whilst he can't play?

Always think he sort of lives on the line between confidence and arrogance but its like the charges have exposed a bit of delusion also.

A good player but perhaps not as good as.he believes he is.
