Ipswich away on January 2nd

Anybody going? Or is this kind of a throw away match not worth attending? It's a Monday game too, so will that cut in to how many people will be traveling? I'm not familiar with the English holiday structure so I'm not sure if most people have that day off. It's a 3pm K.O. so I assume they do. Any input on this would be appreciated.

You over for it? I might be going, it's a bank holiday so most will be off! Ipswich is like the redneck part of England!

I may be...still up in the air. Trying to work it out, but airline fares aren't being agreeable. Trying to balance it with work time off and my finances. Just wondering if anybody travels for that one, or if I'd be in the stands with four other Forest supporters and 20k Ipswich rednecks. Though with my background, I'd fit right in with 'em!

We took nearly 1.5k to Ipswich last season which was also on the first Monday in January, so they should be quite a few with you if you decide to go mate :D

It depends on work, but if I'm still in Nottingham on the Monday, I'll be on my way down there. :D

For someone that experienced the atmosphere of the Derby match, I fear that you would only be disappointed by all things Ipswich.
It is a stadium with very little atmosphere and I expect 1k Reds max to make the journey taking our reduced followings this season into account.
You also have to consider that the following day is the dreaded return to work following the xmas break so a massive beer drinking session won't be an option for most.
I'm making the trip to this one as Ipswich is my home town but dare I say that most will sit at home and listen to it on the wireless.

I have to disagree with this. Last day out before the dreaded return to work means I'm desperate to go, a few will have tickets for xmas and An away day can be a brilliant day out and frankly the Derby game will probably never be matched, so you can't go searching for it!

I shall be going to this as it's only about 30 mins on the train for me, and the trains are running ok from London to Ipswich on that day.

Be warned, I went last year and it was fooking freezing cold. Bring your thermals

Ok, I reverse my advise. Get day the day before and we can all rock out to the sounds of the rock box and have a good drink before the xmas period ends. What do you reckon?

I'd give this one a miss mate. If I was to make a special effort to get to one game a season this would be well down the list especially giving the time of year as well. Will be a poor away following as it is work the next day, the location, we aint going brilliantly well, Ipswich charge an arm and a leg to get in (I seem to remember £31.50 the season before last on a tuesday night). If possible I'd put your trip back a couple of weeks and do West Ham away. Forest away games in London are always a good laugh, better stadium, atmosphere, pubs etc too.

Oh the only thing to be aware of with the West Ham game would be the weather can be really cold throughout January and it is not unkown for games to be called off even when grounds have undersoil heating. Also the media love West Ham and like to show them on TV every week so prepare for a Kick off change.

Funnily enough I'm going to be in the UK for Christmas and New Year and this is one of three games I'll be over for, so I'm planning to be there. Anyone know what the ticket situation will be for this? Will I be able to buy online - will we sell our allocation?
Last time I went to Ipswich was Platt's (spit) first game in charge - we were crap and I had to sit with the home supporters.
I actually like Ipswich a lot - an old fashioned ground (in a good way) with a bit of character about it, so I'm quite looking forward to returning.

What's your flexibility Jim?

Southampton (home) or West Ham (away) a couple of weeks later might be more entertaining. Derby (away) the fortnight after those even better if you can persuade someone to get you a ticket. Leeds (away) in March would also be good.

If you're set on early January then you could have a fun few days in London and take the train to Ipswich on match day.

Has he singed yet?
Yeah, do West Ham away, it's the one away game that I'm likely to get to with not much problems. :D

To totally change the subject...I wonder what sort of allocation we'll get for West Ham ?

My window is really small, like Dec 26th thru Jan 4th. I would see Cardiff at home then hang around for Ipswich if it was worth the trip. This is all tentative at this point, so don't you all get your hopes up at seeing my beaming American face. I was checking prices on flights and travel and trying to see if it can be done. I'm not trying to recreate The D*rby Rape, as I affectionately refer to it, just want to see some matches, but also don't want to be the lone Yank in the stands, although I guess I will be by default no matter how many go! I'll know for sure if I'm coming after I finish up finals in early December.

You originally get an allocation of around 2,000, however they can nearly double that if demand is high enough!

I will be there for both Ipswich and W'Ham, looking forward to both!
