To steal an expression from the great man, he's still learning his trade.

Chris will be all the more better for doing so if he's to eventually make any sort of success of management. He might even need to start that journey lower down.

I'm not saying I want Cohen to be our manager.

But I don't subscribe to the idea he has to spend years learning his craft and go down to league 2 or whatever to earn the right to manage us either.

He'd probably best placed to take the job on in a year or so if we want to see Richardson, Mighten, Johnson, Dekel... etc be fixtures in the first team, as he'll be best placed to get the most out of them.

But I don't believe there's a set path for anyone to take to become a manager.

Well when you have a former Premier League player who, after a single season in Management in the Championship - which ended in inglorious playoff failure - is considered as a shoo-in for one of the top jobs in the Premier League (and Chelsea are that, Embargo or not) then it does make you question why a Manager should have to spend seasons in the supposed „Lower leagues“ having to „learn his trade“?

Paul Ince must be fuming.

Paul Ince shouldn't have been a combination of crap and a nobhead.

You make a very fair point, but I still don't think there's any substitute for gaining coaching experience at different levels, irrespective of gaining the necessary 'badges'.

The influence of Jody Morris has to be accounted for as well. The two have been working together since Lampard retired from playing football and Morris is undoubtedly integral to Lampards success.

Who has Chris Cohen got? Is Jimmy Gilligan the man to be his #2? Its as much about the team as the man, in my opinion.

Hopefully Morris is more eager in Management than he was as a player.

Even Ken Bates said he could have become a Chelsea legend if he wasn’t so bothered about tossing it off half the time.

Is that "I'm not saying he should be our manager" the same as people saying "I'm not saying (insert manager name) should be sacked but.." and then listing a heap of bile stating why they want him sacked?

Obviously they have a better quality of wank mag in the Chelsea dressing rooms

He'll be back.

We can't offer him the experience at the moment so this is a good move for him.

Give him our thanks and a framed picture of the City Ground.

Nice bloke, committed player, we've paid him a shit ton of money & he was injured for a good part of that.

Honours even Id say.

I'd promote him to the first team staff here if I were in charge but then you're into the realms of forcing decisions on the manager and potentially undermining him.

Makes perfect sense to me - let him go and take up a coaching role somewhere he feels comfortable. Eventually he'll earn his badges and get a full management role, ready to take on the Forest job in a few years time and lead us to Champions League glory.
