Houssem Aouar

First Team Squad
A bit harsh to suggest he had no end product last season, still scored 8 goals and got 4 assists. Not sure they're fully comprehending where we've come from and what level we are when they say he's not quite the player he was when the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid etc. were looking at him either, not quite good enough for those teams is still way above anything we expected to sign this summer.

As for the work rate and defensive discipline stuff, assume he'll be coming in to compete with Lingard in the #10 role. His stats on the defensive side when he plays that position vs other attacking mids in the top 5 leagues were perfectly acceptable last season:

Out of interest defensive side of the game obviously not as good by comparison to other CMs but mostly everything else is among the best in the top 5 leagues:

If we get Aouar at his best over a season, we have a player that can dominate a Champions League match day.

If we get the equal to his worst season we still get a player that is a key contributor (and most creative passer) in a top 10 Ligue 1 outfit.

The consistently worst version of him is worth no less than the reported fee imo. Just hoping we can push this over the line

Strange. I thought it was the other way round, and the player was stalling in hope of a bigger team coming in for him

Don't think it's out of the ordinary anymore to get a broad agreement in place with the club then do the contract before finalising the finer details of the transfer fee/ sell on clause.

That account only had 12k followers and Levy drives a hard bargain. Nothing certain there at all.

Which account? The players agreed terms with Spurs already, Atalanta are just pushing for upfront fee rather than the loan + buy offer that Spurs are angling for

Pretty sure earlier reports said that we'd agreed with OL, but needed to agree with the player.

Edit: as others said above

I'm getting very moist thinking about the possibility of this signing.

Seems to be at odds with previous reports. I think the previous reports of the player holding out for a better move feels more likely than Forest quibbling over the fee with Lyon.

I think you're interesting the persuasiveness of our top brass.

I think both parties have been stalling to some extent, club are/were hoping for more interest and a bigger fee. Player was happy to see what options became available to him before fully committing

Fairly confident that €20m + a few more in bonuses and a healthy sell on clause gets this done, sell on clause will most likely be a sticking point for Lyon given his age and the nature of the player

I think the club have done a brilliant job of persuading some players we thought would be out of our reach to this club. This one feels like it might be a little too difficult to pull off though. It wasn't long ago that this lad was linked to some big clubs across Europe, I find it hard to believe he's overly keen on joining a newly promoted side.

Again, I am happy the club are trying though. Can't accuse the club of lacking ambition, that's for sure!

What gives me hope is that nobody could have imagined in their wildest dreams we'd have had even a 25% chance of signing Lingard.

Some players have decided against us and that's fair enough. Cornet who went to Wet Sham and Sow at Frankfurt for example.

They might regret it. Not us. Join the exciting project or get left behind 🥳

I can't imagine Lingard was exactly overly keen initially, but they have a way of getting things done.

Once he meets Super Stevie & feels the roar of the WFCG he'll be fully converted just Iike Jesse.

Exactly mate. If you don’t shoot you don’t score.

We could have settled for Jed Wallace.

I am proud of this ownership, everything is in place now.
