Harry Arter

Stuart Pearce
It wasn't his fault no and who can blame him for taking the easiest money known to man? However for what was once a Premier League midfielder to drop off so much, without any long term injuries, shows an attitude problem or a complete lack of professionalism for me.

There could be all sorts at play behind the scenes but we can only go off the snippets of info we get and what we see and we have to fill in the rest ourselves.

I have County supporting mates who said he was an absolute joke for them.
He lost a child might. Not sure he's ever recovered from that. He moved to us because he thought that moving away from the area might do him some good. As a parent I'm not sure how I'd deal with losing a child

When I played amateur league football, in the East Midlands, then in the South West, to shout "Leave it" without giving a name was treated as "Ungentlemanly Conduct" and got a yellow card.
Not only did it get the yellow card, but most opponents would berate their team mate for the lack of Corinthian Spirit.
The most common call was "Keeper's", which made the centre back duck out of the header.
It is a perfect example of cheating.
These days it should be a straight Red.
Chalobah was denied a goal scoring opportunity by Arter's cheating.

If I remember correctly Arter knew the word Watford used because it’s the same word most teams use. “Over” possibly? Can’t say “leave it” as it’s a yellow card offence.

I thought this was a big no no in the game ?
IIRC Ian Wright has similar done to him when he was at Forest by a Burnley player and was furious as it was an unwritten code of things not to do.

It's a bit like mankading in cricket - completely within the rules but not the spirit

It wasn't that uncommon when I played locally in the '60s-70s Captain. One of the worst examples I specifically recall was playing against Notts Police in the old Nottingham Thursday League. Not all of their players by any means, but a few weren't averse to resorting to that type of behaviour, and other dark arts. I've witnessed on-pitch fights break out as a result.

You've met my dad then, he liked a fight, on and off the pitch.

Come on, is there honestly any “spirit” of the game in professional football?.
I mean the players try to cheat and con at every single juncture-every throw in is contested despite the fact half the time a player knows it’s come off his foot.
It’s just about what you can get away with not what’s right.

It’s only cheating if you get caught.

You get the feeling you’ll see a post pop up in this thread in another 4 years time telling us Arter has just come on as sub for the U18’s or something. That’s some contract he’s got.

What a waste of space this guy is.

Pound for pound surely one of the worst signings in the club's history. If not the worst.

45 year contract at £100k per week if I remember rightly.

Yearly wage doubles if he fails to play or we get relegated.
He'll be getting a testimonial soon as well, his agent makes Jerry Maguire look like an amateur!
