I genuinely don't know what happened to this guy that he just lost all his footballing ability when he came to us. I thought he would turn out to be a good signing at the team, as I remembered him being on upper championship teams.
He played almost 100 Premier League games

The most disappointing signing we have had for a while.

For me Zach Clough still takes the title as worst ever signing but there isn't much in it.

I agree. That kid lost any sense of commitment and desire he previously had at Bolton almost as soon as he landed a lucrative contract with us. Similarly, Cummings and McKay.

I was excited when we signed him. He had been a really solid Prem player.

Neat, tidy, good positioning and seemed to have a good footballing brain.

Then he signed for us and looked like a pub player. Strangest fall from grace I have seen in a long time.

Was it Hughton or Lamouchi that played him as an attacking midfielder?
He was no Gibbs-White.

Here's a question: It seems he's going to be getting a 1 year extension as a result of us staying up (despite having played zero games and contributed absolutely nothing). Prior to this however his contact was due to expire this summer. So what would have happened if we'd have paid his contract up before this season was concluded and safety confirmed? Would we have just been liable to pay his wages for the rest of this season, or would he be 'entitled' to come after Forest for more money when safety was in the bag and he'd have got his extension?

He'd have got the football version of PILON up to the end of the season and then a secondary payment when out safety was confirmed to cover any staying up clauses.

Assuming you meant if Forest unilaterally terminated his contract anyway. If it was a mutual termination then the compensation to After would be decided at the time and wouldn't necessarily have to be related to remaining wages due.

Arter would have to agree to any "paying up" of his contract (unless the contract specified otherwise)

He knew he was on to a good thing if we stayed up so was never going to do that

According to Paul Taylor, the extra year extension was triggered last summer as a result of us getting promoted in the first place. So we'd have had to agree a termination of the contact while a championship club with no money in order to avoid it.

Not seen any suggestion that he got another year on top of that as a result of us staying up, other than someone taking the piss.

He's been a write off for a few years, i don't know if he's still on our books because of FFP (ie spreading the cost of his contract over a few years rather than one lump sum for paying him off)

Now he's in his final year, let's just make a generous offer to pay him up, in the hope the club will save a few 100k.

If it involved negation of potential bonuses due, or extension clauses, he absolutely would have to agree.

The only way he wouldn't have to agree would be if we paid him off with all of those paid as well. Which would be a mental thing to do.

Might have bonuses and he could argue that he’d get in the team which won a trophy so could be missing out on that or goal bonuses from a prolific run in the first team when we have another 20 injuries and he’s drafted in the squad in January

Arter to Hughton: 'Hey boss, why don't you play me as an attacking midfielder?'

Hughton: 'A what?'

Arter: 'An attacking midfielder'

Hughton: 'I heard you Harry, just don't know what you are talking about!'

Arter: 'A midfielder'

Hughton: 'Yes, got that'

Arter: 'Who's primary role is to find and create opportunities in attack.'

Hughton: 'What?'

Arter: 'You know - Attack!'

Hughton: 'Sorry Harry, you've lost me, what are you blithering on about?'

Got to hand it to Arter’s agent, he played an absolute blinder with his contract. Don’t blame him for sticking around seeing as he struggled at National League level when we loaned him out. Easy money for the next year to top up his retirement fund.

If we are still paying him, and it looks like that we are, the very least he could do, is make sure that my seat is clean at the start of next season!

Bought for 5m in 2020; three-year contract; 884 min. in 20/21 (and bomb-squaded long before the season ended); loaned out to clubs in League One (where he only played for less than 500 min.) and in the National League in 21/22; hasn't played competitive football since May 2, 2022; happily receiving Premier wages ever since (for an extra year due to an automatic renewal of his contract), and will continue to receive it until June 30, 2024, when he will undoubtedly retire.

Modern football.
