Have we ever seen a shirt holding pic only for the player not to sign?

While football is often a place absent of morals, you would think that the club have done due diligence on this one. If not, and anything comes of further investigation then we would all rightfully feel let down and the player can GTFO.

I'll wait until the case is over before making a judgement.

Obviously if he's found guilty though not only should he never darken the City Ground again but he should be shot on the spot.

It's not a good look though whatever the outcome and we'd be claiming he was a proper wrong un if Sheff Utd/Derby etc were signing him.
I think the outcome is important though. If it turns out he did nothing wrong, then I don't think we can really lump him in with the likes of Mason Greenwood, Adam Johnson, Lee Hughes, Marlon King, Tom Lawrence, etc.

If it does turn out he is in the wrong though, he deserves every bit of flak (and prison time) coming his way and so does the club.

I have undertaken extensive googling to see if I can discover anything relevant from a reliable journalist, police statement, or anty reliable reporting but so far without success.
All the "stories" seem to emmante from an independent online journal "The Athleticist", and to date I cannot find any information as to the reliability of that particular online independent journal.
Same. Surely if there was the faintest whiff of a story the Argentine press would be all over it as he is rather famous over there? And now that he's linked with us, likewise our press would be plastering the bad news everywhere possible.

The alleged event was four years ago and the accusation made months ago, so if guilty of a crime should he not be locked up by now?

Alternatively, congrats to Sevilla for dodging a bullet with the most exquisite £9m worth of skill.

I agree with the first two sentences.

Not sure if this has been posted but it's translated detail of the case against him:

The event occurred in 2019 during the player's birthday. "At the moment there are not enough elements or vehement indications of the commission of a crime," judicial sources reported on his situation.

After the testimonial statement of a young woman who denounced having been raped at a party organized in the early morning of January 1, 2019 in the family home of Gonzalo Montiel, located in the Buenos Aires town of Virrey del Pino, the National Team player and from Sevilla he appeared to declare voluntarily. According to judicial sources, "Montiel denied the fact that the complainant accuses him and provided a series of details in his statement that will be the subject of an investigation."

This Thursday, after 2:00 p.m., the former River side and world champion with the Argentine National Team attended the Functional Unit for Investigation and Trial Specialized in Crimes Derived from Family and Gender Violence and Crimes against Sexual Integrity No. 3 of La Massacre, by prosecutor Luis Alberto Brogna. Taking advantage of his vacations in Argentina, Montiel gave a statement, learned about the charges against him, and notified him of his rights.

"At the moment, there are not enough elements or vehement indications of the commission of a crime," judicial sources reported on the situation of the footballer. "This does not imply a modification of the procedural situation that he had been maintaining, without prejudice to the fact that this can be modified with the result of the evidence that can be incorporated," he added.

Montiel, represented by doctors Nicolás Payarola and Matías Aquino, said that at the time of the incident he knew the complainant "a few months ago" and "we had only one meeting, where we went to my apartment in the Capital, and we had consensual sexual relations." When recounting his version of what happened that night, he mentioned that he returned between 7 and 8 in the morning after taking a friend to his house and that he met all the guests outside. home.

"My mother and my friends began to tell me that C. (the victim) was screaming angrily and saying that it was all my fault because I had not taken care of her; I did not understand what she meant," said Montiel, who added that "I They said that Alexis had taken her home, and that earlier they had been in my dad's car that was parked inside the house." In the statement he would have denied knowing this person, but the case is labeled "Acosta Alexis s / sexual abuse with carnal access."

The complainant was assigned a hearing for June 22, in which he will have the opportunity to provide "a testimonial statement for the purpose of clarifying or expanding the terms of his complaint" exceptionally.
What does the victim's statement say?

In the text of the complaint filed in 2019, which Olé was able to access, the victim indicated that she was celebrating New Year with her friends when around 1:30 in the morning she received "a WhatsApp message from Gonzalo Montiel insistently inviting me because it was his birthday".

The young woman admitted that she "knew Gonzalo through Instagram", that she had had two meetings with him, confessing that "in one of them we had consensual sexual relations." And that -before the argument made by the complainant that she had no way to get to Montiel's house- the player agreed to pay "the Uber".

In the text, the young woman assures that when she arrived at Montiel's house, she observed that there were "around 25 people, both men and women", among whom she did not recognize "any famous person, acquaintance, or soccer player". And that one of them introduced herself as "Marisa, Gonzi's mother."

In her complaint it also appears that the victim was "invited drinks", assuring her that "I tried two but I did not drink them whole". That the young woman later admits to having started to feel "very bad: my head hurt a lot, I felt like I was going to faint", that at that moment she decided to send Montiel a message from the bathroom saying "please help me, I feel bad, take me to my house", and that when leaving the dressing room the last thing he remembers was seeing the footballer.

The young woman also remarked that she woke up at the entrance to Montiel's house, that she was found "wet and full of mud" and that she had "mismatched clothes, a crooked top." In this context, she recalled that "Gonzalo's sister told me 'son of a bitch, I'm going to kill you, don't mess with my brother, don't name him,' trying to kick me that was stopped by the other girls present."

And that later he found himself in a car, already on his way home, accompanied by three other guests at the party who suggested that "don't even name Gonzalo, it was your fault", arguing that the victim "had not stopped drink, that she was a drunk and that she had been passed out for five hours.”

The woman who made the complaint also remarked that, once at home, when she went to bathe, she felt a headache and pain in the vagina, and that she also found that "she had bruises on her crotch and scrapes on her knee and forearm." And that when she took her cell phone "she had a message from Gonzalo saying 'are you okay?'", to which she asked him what had happened, and Montiel replied "you were with someone."

Surprised, the victim says that she denied that this could have happened, before receiving a new WhatsApp from a woman who said "I am Marisa, Gonzi's mother" and that when she asked what had happened, the response was "They raped you, mommy, give yourself eggs." ”.

According to what was reported, the victim was automatically treated at the Cemic Hospital Universitario guard, where the Sexual Abuse Protocol was activated, with the professionals insisting that she attend a public hospital; Along these lines, the woman affirms that there are inconsistencies in the clinical history with respect to what she had explained.

She further points out that the victim and Montiel had a subsequent dialogue in which, at the complainant's insistence on finding out who had raped her, "he answered Alexis Acosta." That later "Gonzalo's mother told me 'don't worry, Gonzi's friends are going to beat him up'". And that when asking GM's family member that she was willing to file a complaint, "she told me no, that Gonzalo is in River and is going to have problems with the club," suggesting "take care, mommy, you're very pretty."

"That's where my hell began: I don't remember the rape, but this is what followed. They referred me to an infectologist, they tell me that I have to apply some vaccines, they check me up and send me to do a prophylaxis treatment that lasts 30 days, ”says the text of the statement. And that in that period "Gonzalo's mother - whom he accused of following her on Instagram" to monitor what was uploaded "- wrote to me but only to see how things were going."

The complainant, who claims to have started psychiatric treatment, said that she had decided to make the complaint accompanied by a friend in the area where the events had occurred, and that she notified Montiel's mother. And that already at the police station, "when I started to tell what happened and I named Gonzalo Montiel" the officers "left the office and went back in", at the same time as her friend, from the car parked in the vicinity of the police station , had seen "strange movements".

In her statement, the victim claims that she was followed by two cars "for ten blocks." That as the days went by she began "to receive calls from hidden numbers and a very correct male voice told me: 'Forget Gonzalo Montiel, erase his name from your head.'" And that they also communicated with her and told her “that shirt looks very nice on you” or “you have blonder hair”, which she understood as “they were following me”. “They repeated to me ‘we are going to shoot you twice in the head,'” she added. "We are going to kill you even if you are accompanied."

Could they not have fit that into the announcement video?
