To repeat my comment from the summer window thread if this one comes off I assume it's because serge is off to Saudi. Straight right back I think.

Same Montiel who won the World Cup, scoring the winning penalty? That Montiel?

*Actually this would be great if it comes off

If he's already in negotiations and said yes to a deal then clearly he must have made a schoolboy error and failed the Omar Test and missed watching us against Sheff Utd, as he'd have "surely" turned his nose up then

Must be instead of a left back/wingback if it happens, with Aina to continue to play on the left?

As others have said, makes me think Aurier is off to Saudi. Otherwise maybe Williams is getting a championship loan, he's no where near Premier League quality as it stands and needs his confidence bringing up again.

Well, now maybe that ridiculous wavy away kit makes sense!

Could also be that Williams is being considered for the left side?

Regardless of the wider squad there's nothing not to like about this player - good age works cup winning full back with bags of top level experience.

The issue I have with Williams down the left is he gets into good crossing areas and always cuts back onto his right, did it loads against Sheff Utd the other night, not ideal when a lot of our chances come from quick breaks.

I hope not, he was very poor yesterday and struggled against an out of position Ben Osborn defensively, and going forward he kept having to turn back onto his right foot which slowed down the play.

We desperately need a left footed left back to come in as first choice. Aina to be rotation for either side when needed if we sign Montiel.

Williams is not good enough, he got caught out to many times against a poor Blunts side and he will be targeted by all of the better sides and his confidence will get shot, a loan to a top Championship side may do him good.
This.

If Williams is the answer then we're asking the wrong question.

I agree. Think Williams might be a good player in the long run at RWB, but with how we play he's never going to be particularly good for us on the left.

I'd prefer a left footed right back too, though just speculating on squad given this guy is a RB.

Regarding Williams I gather folk don't like him but fully expect him to be part of the squad - champ loan is pointless: he's already proven at that level and it would 'shoot' his confidence more so than the targeting that hasn't happened yet.

The Argentinian reporter who broke the story was the first to call some of our transfers of Argentinian players. Plus, a reminder:

I remember reading somewhere a comment that it's strange you bought no youngsters from Latin America this summer. I'm equally surprised, especially since our DoF, Antonio Cordón (who's also supposed to have an advisory role at Forest), has been buying one Argentinian after another, including a very highly rated young midfielder from Huracán, Santiago Hezze, captain of his club and with 122 appearances at the age of 21.
Montiel is no youngster, but an Argentinian playing in Spain fits Cordon's profile perfectly.

Given our financial situation this summer this surely means a right-back is off. I can't see us wanting to rely on a right-footer until Omar is back?
