Thought this is something I'd see after he joined twitter and then hasn't posted for months.

Wht has he done with himself? Shocking and sad

Yep f*** him he can rot in hell , The cheating fat bastard robbed us on my big day out back in 91. This is the reason I will never forgive him.

I don't know what's more repulsive! That picture of Gazza or your soul for that remark.

You wish death on someone and an eternity in hell because we didn't win a game of football?

You may need to realign what life is all about Lard.

It's a disease, addiction is still treated like these people can help themselves. He clearly can't. It's awful but more awful to see people attitudes towards the poor bloke from the same people who were empathising with Robin Williams. Two sides of the same coin.

I hope someone somehow can find a way for him to break the addiction or that it ends soon for him. No way to live

England legend. Sad to see him that way. I guess some do not have the strength to fight off their demons.

It is very sad to see; it's sad to see anyone like that. People forget that for all its glorification, alcohol is a drug that like other drugs can sometimes be addictive, life-wrecking and even fatal.

I hope he sorts himself out, but we've been saying that for years.

Isn't nice to see such a brilliant sportsman in such a diabolical state at only 47,just hope by some miracle the fella can pull himself round.

Hate to say it but he should have gone united. Fergie would have had him in bed every night by 10.

Look at the state of him now, and it all started in the dentists' chair. :(

Don't wish him any ills, but he embodies a lot of stuff I don't like and for me was a big symbol and forerunner in breeding the "indulge first, earn it later if you can be arsed" mentality. Compare him to Pearce who's 5 years his senior and it says it all.

Why are people so angry about 1991? We scored from the free kick and he broke his leg. Granted I was very young at the time but I don't remember Gazza cheating as the reason we lost?

Hope that is a bad photo. He looks really old for 47.

Bitterness I guess! He should have been sent off before he did his cruciate.

Hence I'll never forgive Milford either.

Have to agree. The man has had no end of help from all quarters, but when it comes down to it the only person who can do anything about it is himself. Can't see him making it into his mid fifties, if I'm honest.

Gazza should have been red carded for assaulting Gary Charles, but Roger Milford bottled it.

He was completely out of control and was a disaster waiting to happen. And did.

He should have sent him off for kicking Garry Parker in the chest - then he would have never knackered his own leg trying to break Gary Charles' leg.

Roger Milford is the real villain of the '91 Cup Final. He let Gazza down as much as he let us down.

It's not sad or upsetting. It's pathetic.

Yeah because it is so easy to beat your demons. What is pathetic is your post. The guy was a genius, too much too young. Could not handle it, made poor decisions which were probably not his, gateshead to Italy best friends encouraging him to party like 1999 all the time It is sad to see a man with so much talent fall from grace like this

Firstly he probably doesn't look as bad as he does in the picture. But when the gutter press take a hundred pictures in a few seconds they will go with the one that makes him look worse as it adds to the story.

However he is clearly in a state. It is not a new thing. There are so many factors with Gazza that have led to his problems. I think he is a genuinely nice, honest, friendly, kind bloke who to be honest probably isn't the brightest lad and was just no bright enough or mature enough to handle the fame and fortune that came his way at such a young age. He has been used and let down by his family and friends. He was a total genius on the pitch, so exciting to watch especially pre injury. Sadly I just can't see him getting over this addiction. I hope I'm wrong.

He hasn't even tried to beat his demons though. He was an incredibly gifted football player who threw that gift away, if he'd not had that skill none of us here would know or give a damn about him.

That's the worst part for me, the wasted potential. :(

I always will wonder what would have happened had he signed for Man United - Ferguson was keen to do a deal - instead of Spurs.

Surely Ferguson would have kept him on a tight leash and he'd possibly not have pissed away the talent he undoubtedly had at his peak.

Depends, he might not have produced the goods on a tight leash.

I'm a mixed state of feeling sorry for a man struggling with personal issues, and kind of thinking he's got no-one to blame but himself, seeing as the incredible opportunities he's had in life over the average Joe.

He would have played him left wing and probably coached all the flair out of him. Like he did Rooney.

I think he just needed someone to look up to, he had too many yes men around him telling him what he wanted to hear.

At the end of the day this is something that is going on all over the country every day and with considerably less publicity.
