'Great ovation there for Robocop' lol

McCleary could replace Reid on the left, he's fairly good on his left foot and has a good shot for when he cuts in. He's also quicker than Reid, even when not moving.

Not sure the comparison to Reid stands much testing - Reid may be slower, but he doesn't panic, doesn't disappear from the game for long spells and his crossing is sublime!
There is a bit of a partnership on the right between Gunter and McCleary (but that is more down to Gunter's class) and I think Reid and Cunningham link up well on the left.
I agree McCleary does drift in and out games, but I like a player who can be electric for a time - last season in the Elland Road debacle McCleary has flashes of pure brilliance (and he scored one of the goals of the season to boot).

McCleary is the sort of player we need to pick up more often. Cheap, skillful and willing to fight for his place. He may not be the best player in our squad but he an asset down the wing - something we've really struggled with over the past two years.

Only concern over the past few games is his tendency to fade out of the game after 60 or 70 minutes.

I must admit I don't really 'get' that as a criticism of McCleary, wingers, in general, due to the nature of the game, tend to drift in and out in mercurial fashion. Some of the best wingers in our own history have.

Exactly. John Robertson was hardly renowned as the most consistent and athletic individual in the Forest team, but by God he had a wand stuck to the end of his left leg!

It will pass and it's not just our help

Hi there, is GM predominantley right or left footed? His his goal v leeds was with his left and he was denied a couple v palace and peterborough when he had a crack with his left from distance. Got loads of ability, if he adds consistancy to his game he good be a very good player for us, hope this game time he is getting will improve him

He's as good with both feet as (an in form) McGugan in my opinion. I think if McCleary could improve his decision making under pressure, he'd be an absolutely fantastic winger. Even more so once Anderson comes back and he's got pressure on his position.

and the small fact its taken what 3 years odd to get a run of consistent performances out of the lad. Honestly!!!! He ain't the feckin messiah, a couple of strong performances and everyone is wading in with how bloody great he is, best player, can turn a game etc etc. Two months ago no one would have given a shit if his contract had been terminated.

He's in the best form we've seen, long may it continue and hopefully he's realising his potential, but three or four games proves absolutely nothing.

Personally, I think his potential was beginning to unravel towards the end of last season.

When did I say he was the messiah? Would you not agree he was cheap, skillful and not the best player in our squad? We're broke now anyway, so we'll be signing more McCleary's than Miller's.

He's also been injured a lot, but suppose that doesn't matter. Cohen's been shit for the past five games too.

Swansea at home.. When it was the ten on ten stalemate. He was the only one taking the ball from deep and swinging it in back post for a number of chances to be missed

It's all about mid-table...
I'm not sure whether McCleary is starting to improve or the standard of Forest play has dropped which sees him in a much better light.

He made a fair few significant contributions off the bench during the Billy Davies era. Now he's just getting a run of starts, mainly because he has (fingers crossed) shaken off his persistent injury problems. I just hope we don't become over reliant on him as a couple of quiet games and no doubt people will get on his back again.

I think injury problems is probably the key. He is plagued by them, every time he gets a run in the team- he starts to do well but its cut short by an injury and he vanished for a while.

I've never been a McCleary fan. But hes been good this season, most of the time hes been involved. So I really hope he can stay fit and finally start to realise some of the potential we have seen.

I don't think anyone's claiming him to be the messiah. What is hard to dispute is that he has proved decent value - for the peanuts he cost us, even just a handful of decent performances makes him value for money. I think he's better than just value for money though and will continue to improve if given the chance.

lol thats an unfair insight, I know you wouldn't say that if it was anderson we were talking about instead of mccleary as I know he is one of the best players in the team to you. They both have strengths and weaknesses, one more attacking one more defensive, both good players.

THis. ^

He's really needs to push on at 24, but thankfully he's getting there at last. Fair play to the lad, here's hoping he's goes from strength to strength.

That's the most important point - I'd like to think that he's perhaps got the right encouragement from Cotts and he's doing a good job. Same goes for Lynch - whilst Chambers and Camp have not performed to the high standards they'd set before the summer, he's seized his chance and again done a good job. Similar ages too, heres hoping they keep maturing and improving their games.

Would be great as one of a front three imo

That was meant to say "Could". I think Big Mac should give him a go. he's showed he can beat a man, he can put good crosses in and he can score. He just needs to be, like the rest of the squad, more consistent with it.

Told ya, ya bloody bastards!
