European Super League

Leaked docs suggesting 16 clubs, including 5 English clubs, are hoping to set up a breakaway European Super League as early as 2020.

Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea would all in such a scenario give the middle finger to English football completely by withdrawing from the Premier League.

I know this one has been in the pipeline for a while but seems to be gathering traction. Personally if it comes to happen I wish the whole venture falls flat on its arse, and then when the clubs go crawling back to their national associations are promptly told to do one.

Where's me hammer?
The FAs will take them back, lets not be daft.

The money on offer must be daft for the English clubs to want to leave... i mean i can understand clubs from other countries but the prem money blows everything away.

Interesting

I imagine, as this sort of talk has been in the past, this will be a bluff to put pressure national governing bodies and UEFA to drop rules they don't like financial fair play, and to direct more of the pot to them.

But if it, hopefully their bluff is called.

Amongst the 'Founders' Arsenal and Man City, PSG. What in their footballing history qualifies these clubs as founders of a European Super League? They are European footballing nobodies. Guaranteed twenty years inclusion. Meanwhile Ajax do not even qualify as an 'initial guest. Deluded.

Agree and the sooner it happens the better. Feel sorry for the real fans of the clubs as this is purely for gree.

Instead of stealing the clubs of the people, why don’t these rich f***ers set up their own teams, build their own stadiums and academies and create their own histories? They’re basically doing an MK Dons and trying to create an NFL style closed league for the global market. If that’s what they want, go for it.

Brilliant, bye.

The European FA's should tell them to f*** off, we won't sanction anything, pay you anything and none of your players are getting called up.
Oh and your never allowed back, none of you, owners, players, teams, fans

The most irritating thing here is that these so-called „super clubs“ have mostly bought their success, and their popularity comes from progress through their own domestic leagues.

As ever, it’s all about money. Which means it will probably happen, sooner rather than later.

And I doubt whether those domestic Associations will just stop picking the best players in the world for their national squads.

Spurs are going to be well pissed off, so that’s one plus point.

The real loser will be football fans. As usual.

They can f*** off.

As in: 'they can f*** off and start this, now please'

It will fail in 3 years. Fans simply WON'T travel to watch eg arsenal v feyenoord on a wet Wednesday in November when there is ABSOLUTELY nothing at stake, once the first couple of years novelty have worn off.

f*** them off and let's have the top division back as something everyone can win.

The thing that sets me DEAD against this going ahead is that you just know that when it fails the various FAs will let the breakaway teams straight back in to the top division please sirs thank you sirs how else can we bend over to help you sirs, and it'll instantly relegate 6 clubs.

For that reason, this whole obscene idea can bollocks.

That’s the dumbest thing about it.

I think (and hope) it will be a disaster if it happens. Not only will people get bored of it really quickly, but I think they also underestimate the size of the football community outside these ‘elite’ clubs.

No administrator of a top club will care about that. There will plenty of (worldwide) TV money to make up for reduced attendances.

I'm not sure it will fail immediately, I'm sure they've done their sponsoring maths. What it will certainly do is reinvigorate current European competitions and national football leagues. So let them have it. Back to real football for the rest of us.

To be honest, they don’t care.

It’s all about television and online coverage.

The football league structures they rose from, made them. People in suits think it is the other way around. Let them go and find out.

Something in these lopsided competitions has needed to change for years now. The gulf won't can't be reined in. This is the other option.

Do you think Asian markets, where the vast majority of money is now being harvested, will still be there if these teams are playing with reduced crowds and rubbish atmosphere? Part of the 'sell' of football is the passion and being part of a tribe.

They’ll get the lads from Hollywood to massage the footage with computer generated crowds.

Imagine the scenes they could get away with, without having to worry about all those pesky „health and safety“ rules.

I actually feel sorry for the genuine fans of the top 6, not the sky sports plastic wankers but the lads who stood on the Stretford end when Utd were shit, the City fans that went when they were 3rd Division & the 13,000 Chelsea fans that used to turn up pre Abramovich

Yep & now their grounds are full Chinese & Norwegian day trippers wearing half & half scarves and taking photos

And a bunch of Home Counties wankers who could just have easily supported spurs / arsenal etc... if they were the London club on the up at the time.

Speaking to Chelsea old boys they f***ing hate it, can't afford a season ticket and can't get match tickets.
I'd love them to f*** off, we'd soon see a more open competition in England as the money would reduce and parachute payments woukd be phased out requiring players to accept relegation clauses in their contracts or go and work elsewhere. It would improve football for the fans of all the other clubs without doubt.
f*** OFF. :)
