Yep, can't see a new pursuit of Djed now that we've signed Williams.

It's going to be bizarre if Djed gets "stuck" at Boro.

I'm going to be honest, I think the pettyness of the cigar/Warnock thing after the play-off final might have put Forest off a bit. Obviously still wanted him and obviously he probably would have favoured Spurs regardless but I do wonder if we pivoted away from Spence as first choice to Williams as first choice after that. Squad dynamics are important, especially when you introduce a raft of new signings, and everyone we have/are buying seem to be down to earth, humble, quiet lives etc.... but Spence doesn't really fit that.

I'm not totally sure but it does admittedly show in public a different character than you might have seen before.

Though I can totally understand the Warnock thing. The guy clearly (despite being a very successful manager) didn't know how to man-manage Spence and loaned him out. Less than a year later Warnock's out of a job, Boro didn't make the playoffs and he got promoted with his loan side. It's a bit immature but then he's a young player.

The cigar thing would annoy me more than anything else but then if it was just posed then who knows. I think he was spotted with cigars a few times in the post season stuff so maybe it wasn't. Guess end of season is a bit different but given the impact of smoking I'm surprised pro athletes do it at all let alone one for whom pace and fitness is a key weapon. Though I think Henman used to smoke when he played tennis professionally, probably cost him that extra mile at Wimbledon all those times he got close.

To be fair though I think the club probably thought Spence would go to Spurs or one of the other clubs linked, realised we didn't have a chance getting him against any of those, and looked at other right backs. I don't think that either Williams or Spence will be 2nd choice, so that ship seems to have gone off to the knackers yard.

Must admit I thought along the same lines.

Lots of professional athletes smoke, believe it or not.
Most of the French rugby team (Serge Blanco) from the previous generation and even some pro cyclists.

It doesn't make a great deal of sense but I'm not sure a few Cigars would poison the relationship between DJed and Coops (unless they were blunts of course!).

My take on it is much more simple. I think Coops is a straight up kind of guy and I am sure he and Murphy will have had a 1:1 with Djed at some point prior to the end or soon after the end of the season. They will have asked him straight up what his plans were and if DJed told them he was 100% committed to getting back closer to home I think that will have been enough for them. As a result I don't think we were ever in for him... out recruitment guys will have been working like dogs to get the players in we have and I honestly don't think we had time to be playing a complex dance with DJed and 'Boro.

Its a shame, but players hold all the cards....

NGL as much as I love Djed for his contribution last year, the shadow side of me hopes the Spurs deal falls through. Might be the final lesson this kid needs to learn in his quest for...whatever.

So long as thanks for all the fish. Pity he was set on Spurs, still wish him well though.

Rumours are that its getting close for Spurs agreeing a fee for him, deal starting at £12.5m with add ons that could reach £20m.

Not going to lie I would have wanted Forest to sign him, especially for that price but happy with Neco anyway.

The spuds chatter I've seen is there main hope for him is to compete with/cover Doherty who has gotten cult like status after Conte coached the living daylights out him, it sours it a bit more for me because they don't even know what potential Djed has got and don't seem to see it as a key signing.

I say best of luck to the guy. If anything I hope he's a success for his mum. She's a Forest legend.

I don't think we were ever going to get him. He wouldn't have passed up chance to play at Spurs to stay with us. That's ok, he's earned that chance, good luck to him. It'll also help Forest in the long run as players will see if they can perform here they can moves to top clubs.

Twelve million is pretty cheap. I can see why he'd rather go to Spurs than us and I bet they were offering him a much bigger salary than us. But I wonder how it works if we'd offered Boro say 15m?

Boro would have said to Spurs "Forest are offered £15m, you need to match it" and then they'd have matched it, and he'd have gone to Spurs.

Of all the the targets Djed seems the most unlikely now.

He seems to have set out his stall as wanting to go to Spurs (don't blame him given their cheese shop).

It's irrelevant anyway now we've signed Neco "Broad Sword Calling Danny Boy" Williams.

Glad he got the move he wanted in the end, and with us bringing in Williams it softens the blow and means we can wish him the best and move on without feeling hard done by. A civil ending for all parties really, I look forward to seeing how he performs in the prem (against everyone but us)

Looks like he was set on Spurs so we looked elsewhere, which is fair enough. I’m not really sure why he’s attracted any discussion amongst Forest fans this summer because it’s been clear from day 1 he’s going to Spurs.

Our ‘replacement’ is just as good in my opinion.

We badly need to replace Garner and Zinc now.

Interesting. Maybe the recruitment team doesn’t think he’s up to the Prem.

Good luck to him, except against us.

Probably just got told he wanted Spurs from the beginning so we didn't waste our time chasing him.

Gutted as I felt he could definitely make the step up and under the right management can go on and be a brilliant player for Spurs. I just hope Williams is an adequate replacement...

I'll be watching how he gets on, really hope he's a massive success for Spurs. I hope he gets more than just a handful of games, he's earnt the right to play at the top.

I agree with others. It was clear his heart was with Spurs, so Forest didn't pursue.
