Diop Tehuti Djed-Hotep Spence

Spurs are in the driving seat on this transfer. They know Djed wants to go there and have agreed terms with the player so they can play hardball with Boro who they know are dependant on the transfer money to fund team building. Whatever happened to clubs agreeing a transfer fee before allowing their players to talk to other clubs?!
I'll be honest I'd be a bit wary of taking DJed now. Hes firmly nailed his colours to the mast with Spurs. If he'd wanted to be at Forest he would be here now and in Spain with the lads. Despite his heroics last season theres will be a reason why he has a rep for being a bit of a mardy difficult f***er. Last thing we want is a pissed off player of that sort who is upset he missed his first choice....

Reading between the lines I get the impression we gave up the chase quite a long time ago. Either Boro asking too much or Djed preferring a move back to London.

Its the latter. Once a player (particularly one like DJed who everyone knows is going to move) makes it clear hes favours one club heavily over another its pointless trying to turn it into an auction because he will find a way of screwing a deal to go elsewhere. My guess is its a struggle for Boro to keep the price at 15 rather than them looking to squeeze more out of it.

It does seem this one has been djed in the water for months.

Daniel Taylor article last week:
Spence is keen to join Spurs, with the prospect of Champions League football and all their other attractions. Tottenham operate with an entirely different pay structure to Forest, even if the London club are baulking at Middlesbrough hiking the asking fee close to £20 million, almost double what it was in January. The interest from Spurs goes back to the start of the year and Forest are said to be relaxed about the situation.
DT in the comments:
Spence has known about Tottenham's interest since January, maybe even earlier. It's hard to reject that, I'm afraid. I mean, Forest have got a lot to offer - but top four club, Champions League, London, the best stadium in the PL, playing with Kane/Son etc, earning way more in salary than he would ever get with us ... why would he realistically turn that down?

Plus Boro wanted in the region of £12m not so long ago. The asking price is seriously steep. It would need a) Spurs to abandon the last six months b) Boro to slash price c) Forest not to have signed anyone in that time. Realistically it's not going to happen.

I don’t think so but we would still need another RWB as Kabore chat seems to have gone quiet since City put a big price on his head.

Seemingly paying 17m for Williams, if Spence wanted to come to Forest, a deal would have already been done by now, so I think that ship has sailed.

I think we'll go for a much cheaper option than Djed, or just settle for Biancone as RWB cover. Spending upwards of £30m on two RWBs would make very little sense.

I think the ship has sailed.

Williams and Richards deals look to be almost done, I would have thought they will be the first choice RWB and LWB.

If Toffolo comes, he will be the reserve LWB and we still have Colback who can cover there.

We also (provided we don't sell them or loan them out) still have Fin Back and Richie Laryea who could cover RWB as well as the new lad.

Given Spence would cost a similar amount to Williams we wouldn't be spending 15m for a reserve and I doubt either would come here to do that either.

There's a high chance that Boro holding out for Spurs to pay up means they have the player ...

Biancone can also cover right wing back so it doesn't make sense to bring a second quality right wing back in. Unless we shift Williams to the left, but then we have Richards and Toffolo presumably. Moot point, he'll go to Spurs.

Interesting that Spurs are now getting linked to Kyle Walker Peters who they have a £30million buyback clause for. Small chance Boro end up going into the new season with Djed as their player.

What on Earth are spurs and Spence messing around at?.
Either they want him or they don’t-j honestly don’t see the fee as a major problem, 12M or 18M it’s all the same then…

Spence has his heart set on Spurs, but Spurs don't seem to be that interested in Spence (hence why they are reluctant to meet Boro's asking price).

It's a shame how this is panning out. With Williams signing, the ship has sailed with regards to him coming back to Forest unfortunately.

He needs to go to a club that plays wing backs to reach his potential.

He isn't disciplined enough to play RB in the Prem & isn't dangerous enough to play RW.

I haven't believed their interest is genuine from the very start, if it was going to happen it would have happened by now. People keep saying it's because Daniel Levy is negotiating, but he had no such delays in all the other players they have brought in.

It would be beautiful if he ends up here at a cut price. It feels like Boro have played this really poorly, infact all the clubs which we had players on loan and want them back seemed to have played it poorly.

The Spurs interest is genuine they just made it very clear they won't shift on their valuation of him. At the end of the day he's a championship player on the back of a good season, Levy is notoriously stubborn with transfers (Spurs fans have done their fair share of complaining over the years) and certainly won't cater to Boros expectations for an unproven player

There's no denying Spence is risky business, as I said before Levy probably already feels like he's paying over the odds at £12m let alone the £17m+ that Boro are allegedly holding out for. Spurs need a first choice prem ready wingback, it's not the type of club Spence can go to and be given time to develop he essentially needs to hit the ground running if he wants to 'make it' there

At £17m there's better more experienced options for Spurs to consider

I'd love to see Djed back, but even at a cut price deal I don't see it happening now as I can't see him being happy playing second fiddle to Williams (who will almost certainly be a starter, given his price tag and the work we've put into signing him).

I do hope he does get a move this summer, I'll always be grateful for him playing a key role in our promotion and I'd genuinely hate to see him rot at Boro.

No point now-I would think Williams has been promised a starting berth and the last thing we need is a disruptive, grumpy DJed on the bench
