Dress it whatever way you want, Grabban has had 3 full seasons at this level and has hit 22, 12 & 20 and on track for another 20.

The going rate for a 20+ man at this level is north of 10m

Fair point re: full seasons vs my point at limited Reading impact.

£6m or £10m, he's banging in the goals which if they get us will make it a bargain. :)

At the risk of sounding like a broken record he's really surprised me at how good he actually is, never really had him down as a decent striker just a streaky one who would score 4 or 5 in a batch and then go quiet for a month or two and I never really thought he offered any energy or technical ability but he definitely does.

I think he's enjoying being the main man and having the players he does have behind him. Any striker with Lolley & Carvalho behind them are gonna get joy.

He's a better all round player than I thought he would be too. If he does nothing all game you at least know he's gonna have worked hard and taken care of the ball. A striker that takes care of the ball and scores goals are hugely valuable - usually it's one or the other, especially at this level.

Grabban is really a number ten with good technique and passing ability who can finish. If he had pace as well he’d have been a PL regular.

I suppose my gripe was with "perspective" - I don't think we've done anything wonderful with Grabban, we've just paid fair price.

A Britt type sale where a player goes for almost a league record despite fairly obvious pitfalls in his game and a lengthy injury is unlikely to happen again for a while. It's a bit of anomaly so I'm not sure what perspective you can draw from it apart from sometimes stupid things happen. :)

I know it’s not a popular view but the Brereton deal is looking like a good bit of robbery too. Plenty of time for him to turn it around but he remains unable to score and Rovers have him on the wing again. He gets a fair old slating on their forums.

I agree. The bottom line is a young player with a bad attitude needed to go. All the diving antics were really beginning to annoy me anyway, but yeah, looking like another pants down deal.

Certainly not outrageous a suggestion as it was three months ago. Hard to deny his stock has fallen significantly but still time for him to recover it.

I still think Britt's a cracking player, and let's not forget that's he's still only 25 and he's still managed 5 goals this season which aint great but aint bad either.

But you're spot on with the amount we got for him. We got a great deal.
I'd still take Britt back. He was the most natural goalscorer we've had for many years. Ok, now we have Grabban but I think Assombalonga would offer a different type of option up front.

Britt is still a very good striker at this level, but the £15m they paid us for him was probably about £5m too much (and that's before we even get to his wages!).

Grabban on the other hand is an absolute bargain at £6m in today's market.

Don't think the Boro fans agree, they have a Britt Assombalonga is shit thread on one of their forums.

Pulis has absolutely killed him, I have a Boro supporting mate - they are both almost in a standoff.

Pulis plays long balls to him with nobody within 50 yards of him, so the player has a sulk and doesn't bother trying. He will score the odd goal as he always does, but there is nothing from him past that. The end result is he just sits on the bench.

Gestede went off injured yesterday after about 20 mins and they bring on an academy player who is a winger while leaving Britt on the bench.

The best part about all this is that at that way back when when we were trying to get Britt in it was actually Britt or another striker we were chasing. We went for Britt and paid almost twice as much as we would have done for the other guy.

The striker we decided not to sign got his first England goal a couple weeks ago.

Callum Wilson?

Well I never knew we were in for him!

Yep.

There was running commentary on here about which one would be the better signing between him and Britt. It was pretty much a 50/50 split in opinion.

Some media reports on Coventrymail about it too.

Feel a bit sorry for him ending up with Pulis as manager, never going to be his style of play. When he was here we didn't exactly create many chances for him either. Hopefully he will leave Boro and go somewhere he's more suited to.

This makes me sad, he was a fish out of water on the wing, needs to be up front.
