Interesting to read that Matty Fryatt is unlikely to play again this season - I thought he was only out for a couple of games.

The quote from Dougie is interesting...
He is jogging, but he has to be able to train at the intensity I train at, to be considered for selection.

"That is a long way away. It could take a couple of weeks and, with the season only being a few weeks away from finishing, it is looking unlikely.

Is Dougie suggesting he's fitter than Matt?

Dougie was always noted as an intensive trainer.

Matty Fryatt is a bit more, shall we say, laid back.

I remember when Britt signed for Boro, someone on here said ' I don'tgive a shite as long as he scores a goal that puts a nail in the Derby promotion coffin'

Nice one Britt.

Much like Jordan Rhodes, in a system that tees your strikers up consistently, Assombalongas as good as there is at championship level.

Those systemns are becoming few & far between at this level, Britt brings nothing else, so its not difficult to see why he may be struggling to hold a regular place down.

Wouldnt have him back here either.

Said as much when the talk first started of us selling him.

That we got £15m for him is just incredible considering above and coming back after a difficult injury. I was hopeful/almost expecting about half the final figure.

Not sure it does. £6m is a fair market price for a striker at this level who won't make the step up if we get promoted.

The £15m for Britt was just dumb luck that we stumbled across a club willing to fork out that much for a mediocre asset.

That's largely what I mean. We signed one of the best strikers at this level for a reasonable price when compared to some of the overinflated fees some other clubs have paid in recent years.

I still think Britt's a cracking player, and let's not forget that's he's still only 25 and he's still managed 5 goals this season which aint great but aint bad either.

But you're spot on with the amount we got for him. We got a great deal.

I suppose my gripe was with "perspective" - I don't think we've done anything wonderful with Grabban, we've just paid fair price.

A Britt type sale where a player goes for almost a league record despite fairly obvious pitfalls in his game and a lengthy injury is unlikely to happen again for a while. It's a bit of anomaly so I'm not sure what perspective you can draw from it apart from sometimes stupid things happen. :)

6m is great value in this market, regardless of whether they could step up or not.

You just need to look at the amounts Rhodes, McCormack (who probably have worse goal records) have gone for in the past to several clubs at this level. I think Rhodes has gone for £10m+ 3x at this level.

McCormack is a good comparison because he was the same age as Grabban is now when he went to Villa for £13m off the back of a 21 goal season and subsequently did absolutely nothing. You take the risk that 20 goal strikers will reproduce that form which Grabban is doing (so far), so £6m seems cheap and it will be if he ends on 20+.

From Villa's perspective McCormack at £13m was the biggest waste of money ever because the gamble that he'd keep that form up into his 30s failed. If he had gone and scored 20+ goals they'd have been delighted even at double Grabban's price.

Jordan Rhodes played a few games in the Prem though, albeit not much. There was a fair amount of chatter a few years ago about him potentially earning an England call up, bonkers now it may seem.

McCormack I suppose is a better comparison, but then you have to consider the records (not just goals but appearances too). McCormack played two full seasons before his Villa move and got 20+ goals in both didn't he?

Britt got less than 20 in the season prior to his sale, and the season before that he didn't play because he was crocked.

Grabban had a great season last year but the year before that at Reading he barely even registered. Last time he scored at this level was when Bournemouth first came up, after that he was replaced by Wilson. That's what, five, six years ago?

Grabban's been great for us so far but I don't think you can use hindsight to dictate whether what we paid was fair or bargain. He'd had one very good year at this level in half a decade, and was of an age whereby he had no further potential and was actually just a depreciating asset.

£6m was a fair price for both buying and selling club, but we're benefiting from it that he's on his game and scoring goals. :)

Rhodes has played for Scotland for 8 years, he was even in there U21's, so I'm not sure there was a potential England call up?

Is that you, Warbs?

Sshhhh not everyone knows that yet!

Seriously though isn't Rhodes English? He may have decided to play for Scotland but I could have sworn when he first started banging them in with some regularity there was talk of England call-up.

Went to school in Scotland, so he clearly considers himself Scottish . Embarassing.

Dress it whatever way you want, Grabban has had 3 full seasons at this level and has hit 22, 12 & 20 and on track for another 20.

The going rate for a 20+ man at this level is north of 10m
