Brice Lauriche Samba - „Magic Hands“

I have watched a few Lens matches on DAZN, just to see how he is getting on.

(Narrator: he is doing rather well).

Love the guy. He will remain a Forest legend, and I suspect he will never need to buy a drink in Nottingham, ever again.
The Shithouse master is still well and truly at it. :D

I feel for him. He was due to make the cut until his rush of blood last week!
Tbf Derby have never lost when he's kept a clean sheet. Shouldn't that be enough reason?

I have no problem with Samba, the situation when he left, or either situation now. I just feel like it is the premier league loss, not having him, because it is such an amazing character and clearly talented, he was made for the big leagues

Yeah he would have been box office, those one handed catches in particular.

I still get that tinge of sadness when I think of what might have been had he stayed; I have no doubt whatsoever he'd have thrived for us in the Premier League and provided plenty of laughs and memes in the process!

Some players are legends for their longevity at the club, and some are here only briefly but become one through sheer force of character

Brice is definitely the latter and I'll always wish him well wherever he goes

To be fair, im not sure whether cooper actually trusted his temperament after the Stoke game, he did after all play Horvath for a few more matches until he was too late back from the US to play in a match and then Brice got his place back.

Especially in the PL you get opponents who are total shit heads and wind up your players (especially in the team we visited weekend before last lolz) which maybe they thought he wouldn't cope with.

Although you sometimes can't tell, ability wise I'm sure he would have been one of the better GKs in the PL

I haven't kept too keen an eye on his time at Lens to be honest but a quick check on Soccerbase and he hasn't received any red cards since

I dare say he learnt from that episode

Yes, but when the trust goes there's always that niggling doubt in your mind about whether it will happen again.

I agree with you, but maybe the club felt otherwise?

Perhaps they did

I don't think we'll ever know exactly why he left, but if you want my opinion I think it was probably a number of things on both sides that all came together to mean ultimately he wasn't retained

I think Cooper was teaching Samba a lesson by leaving him out after his suspension, while being fair to Horvath because he hadn't made any mistakes. Cooper was all about next man up (particularly in the Championship), but I suspect he was happy Horvath was late back from international duty so it gave him an excuse to bring Brice back in.

Whatever happened behind the scenes with Samba, it's disappointing we couldn't keep him. There is a lot wistful nostalgia about him, and he was mostly excellent for us, but there were flaws in his game (like most keepers we've had). I'm not sure he's as good as Henderson or Navas in actual goalkeeping terms (I think he's better than Turner though), but he's a different level in terms of ability with his feet, mind games and shithousery. I think it's his personality we've missed the most, especially last year where out centre backs were constantly being swapped about due to injuries and poor form.

I don't get all this discussion. Samba didn't like to stay. He didn't believe in Forest and wanted to capitalize his great season. That's business. Nobody could stop him from leaving. And don't be fooled, the reason wasn't that you were addressing other keepers too. All teams try to strengthen their squads. The players are not running away when the club gets another potential starter in their position. They stay and fight and then if they won't get what they deserve they file a request to leave. Samba just didn't believe in Forest's survival and left.

That's one take, mine is slightly different - as a club I think we showed him the door as the management didn't want to tolerate certain off field and/or training issues.

Had we offered him a decent contract extension I think he'd still be here. It's a shame as ultimately he's proven what most of us thought in that he was more than capable of making the step up.

Let's not re-write history.

Samba loved it here and his brother was all over social media shouting to pay the man what he's worth. (A pittance compared to the 4 inferior keepers we've brought in to replace him).

The club didn't offer him a fair wage and received a low sum suggesting we were non too worried about his departure.

A monumental f*** up that is against what has been a generally great 2 seasons since promotion so we can't complain too much, but it is still galling.

Bad take. If Samba did not believe in us why did he not just leave whilst we were in the Championship?

He pretty much is the reason we got to Wembley and got promoted. He wanted a contract that he deserved and to feel respected and trusted as our number 1, which he 100% deserved. His brother pretty much confirmed this.

Instead it was just leaks about wanting to sign Henderson & Pope which left a sour taste in his mouth, which ultimately led him to saying I will leave as I feel disrespected and the club showed him the door. Remember it wasn't just rumours that we want to sign a keeper for competition to Brice, it was headlines along the lines of "Forest target their first summer signing to be world class goalkeeper to be new number 1".

We sold him for only £5m and have signed Turner and Vlachodimos for more... It is terrible business and one that we are paying the price for, as we scrambled most of summer to find a number 1 who we should already have.

At risk of repeating myself, imho all of that unfolded because of off the field stuff that lead to the manager no longer wanting him as a first choice option (and quite probably not an option at all).

Let's leave this one in the "we never know what might have been" category.

Forest just about survived last year with 2 very capable keepers. Any 'eccentric' moments shall we say from Samba could easily have resulted in them bring back in the championship this year.

He's another one without whom Forest wouldn't have been promoted, that 2nd leg was a performance of a generation. We can all have the pleasure of seeing it in our lifetime and enjoy the moments Samba gave while he was here.

Like goes on, the club is in a much better place now and should be looking to establish themselves in the top tier in next few seasons.

I thought I read somewhere him and his family wanted to move back to France?

Also found it telling Cooper seemed to be quite sharp with him after the playoff final when making a speech, he had to tell Brice to shut up whilst he was talking. Whilst he was loved, maybe he was quite difficult to manage.

Whatever, I loved him whilst he was here and wish him all the best, was great for us.

Our man Brice getting another one over Arsenal.

Didn't see any of the match but a 7.7 rating suggests he did pretty well.
