Brice Lauriche Samba - „Magic Hands“

Any Time Now

Grenville Morris
Nothing but respect for Brice, it's sad to see him go and seems especially wrong after his heroics in the play offs on the back of a huge season. It's rare you'll see a player cement his self as a Forest legend in what ultimately turns out to be his final run of games

An exceptional keeper that was levels ahead of where we were at when we initially bought him in. The stats show he's consistently been one of the best in the league. His distribution was especially priceless to us, it really showed that not only his distribution but also the importance of a composed goalkeeper who's always open to receive and control the ball regardless of opposition pressure. Still believe he was a much better shot stopper than people give him credit for too

Ultimately the timing made things awkward, I think all of us agree Samba was worth a shot at the prem and we wouldn't have been overly concerned if he was our #1 going into next season. Sadly when you have the opportunity to bring in a player of Hendersons pedigree, tried and tested at the highest level, it's hard to justify turning it down

As much as he loves the club I knew Brice would never accept playing as a backup keeper, he's 28 years old and arguably in the best form of his career. He's a showman, he's confident and he backs his ability (rightly so) and realistically doesn't belong on a bench. I respect his hunger

Top player, top professional and a natural entertainer. For what it's worth I firmly believe that the contract disagreements were over playtime and not wages (he had a promotion package waiting that included a pay rise which he'd already agreed to). Wish him all the best and one thing I know for sure is even with him leaving Forest, Forest will never leave him. He will always be a red

Brilliant summary.

I agree with most of that. He was a truly excellent keeper-best distributor of the ball I have ever seen at the CG, really good shot stopper and commanded his 6 yard area well (bit less good further out). He was an eccentric (like many keepers and drummers!) and I think much of what he did made some people anxious even though in real terms the outcomes were just as good as "conventional" stoppers.

I'm very sad he won't grace the prem for two reasons 1) we owe being there to him and 2) we will never know how good he could have been now.

The only thing I disagree on ATN is the comment about the opportunity to "bring in" Henderson. It smacks of a premeditated plan to replace Brice which being a pretty loyal person I don't like and secondly and more importantly we don't "have" Henderson. He is here to put himself in whatever shop window he thinks is important and whilst you might argue that doesn't matter if he plays well personally I am not happy with a player who isn't prepared to commit to the club. I don't like the fact he will be out of here at the end of the season and there won't be anything we can do about it. We didn't hold the aces but frankly I would rather have had Brice with a new deal than that.

You must absolutely hate that we signed Djed, Zinc, Davis, Garner and Lowe then as non of them have signed, they lol came here to reignite their careers and all had no intention of staying.... especially Djed!

Also how do you know he isnt willing to sign for the club?

There are several ways in which the loans to bring what were at the time distinctly average players into an average Championship set up and the loan, without an option for Henderson at the expense of our established keeper are fundamentally different, but something tells me you're not interested in the detail, rather just an opportunity to have a go at me, so I won't bother explaining.

Surprisingly I don't generally care about "having a go at you", I disagree with some things you say but that's life and this is a forum. I don't take it to heart when someone disagrees with me, everyone can have an opinion as long as it stays civil.

I don't need to agree with everyone and I don't expect to, I come on here for healthy debate and discussion.

**Edit**

Im not going to turn this thread into the MGW one so I'll end it here and not respond to any of your posts in the future..

Good, I think I said something similar last time you took issue with everything I said about a year ago.

In the interests of forum relations I'll ignore everything you say too from here on.

Goodbye Brice. Was the best passer of the ball at the club - I always hoped he'd get a run on free kicks around the opposition area. Good luck!

We'll probably never know which way round this one went. But Samba was first choice for us in the Championship and think most people agree he would be able to play in the PL.

But there was always the element of shithousing and various antics which don't really seem like something Cooper would like. If we had VAR he would probably have been sent off for the antics against Derby, he did pick up plenty of yellows for time wasting and other antics (but these rarely see a keeper sent off) and indeed was sent off against Stoke and served a 3 match ban and lost his place for a while. Prem teams may potentially target that though it looked like Sheff Utd did as well and he didn't react to it but there's always that kind of issue.

So maybe that was in the back of the manager etc's minds when looking at what positions to bring in as possibly they couldn't trust him to behave. Maybe such had already been mentioned to Samba when he has discussions with Cooper about his performances etc. Or maybe as he has a young family etc he just wanted to go back to France - Paul Ince left Inter so that Tom could go to school in England and not Italy.

If they were looking at bringing in the likes of Henderson, Pope etc to replace Samba whilst he was happy to stay, then that's probably disrespectful to an extent, and possibly how it might annoy him, but that is part of football, bring in better players if you can. Or maybe the player had already signalled that he intended to leave the club and it wasn't about money or playing time so the club looked for other options.

One of the best to watch and support, and had looked forward to him in the prem.

But there were a few signs of discontent, and no one is bigger than the club.

The transfer fee for Brice covers a good chunk of the cost for Henderson, seems good business.

Hopefully a good move for all concerned.

Thanks for the memories!

a pretty good keeper, just not a keeper

we'll never know the ins-and-outs of his departure

always had a nagging feeling about his reliability to get caught up on the moment in the premier league and you wonder if that played on minds at the club - I said after the Blackburn game, that he'd get a red card with 3 games and sure enough he delivered a couple of games later, while for the most part he didn't return to previous antics, was it ever far away?

his penalty saves in the play-offs are unforgettable and he'll live long in my mind for that

have a great Future Brice

Good post. He got away with stuff in the Champ which I'm not sure he would in the Prem. We'll never know for sure now though.

But this now a huge positive for the club IMO. Not only do we have a better keeper here now, but the message has been firmly sent - "No-one is bigger than the club, keep your egos in check. If you take the piss we'll replace you"

I think we'll have a more unified spirit for that in the long run.

Thanks for helping get us back to where we belong Brice though, your cult-hero service is well deserved.

Thanks for everything, but it's time to move on. Let Samba go where he feels comfortable. There's no room for romance in the Premier League, we need quality. No need to despair. Henderson is definitely moving forward.

Bitter sweet taste to Brice going, genuinely loved the guy whilst he was here, but the last few weeks, the tweets etc have left slight bitter taste in the mouth.

That being said I am sad he's going, could have been a Forest legend for years to come and he will always be remembered for his shithousing and that semi final.

au revoir et bonne chance
