The crack in Brentford must be something else if they think that they have anything to offer Brennan that we can't, more XG maybe but f*** all else.
They will be able to offer him more goals too for the first half of the season due to Toney being banned.

I can see Forest getting increasingly peed off with Wales. Paige publicly came out to slam Forest when we withdraw Johnson due to injury at back end of last season -i don’t think Cooper responded. And now this. Pleased Cooper has highlighted this and we had a few national teams last season fail to take care of our players when on international duty.
IIRC, Page had a thinly-veiled pop at Steve Cooper for selecting Brennan to play in a Forest league match before a vital Wales game. The total f***ing nerve of the man.

I look at the two current interested options and I see some logical holes in both.

Brentford came in with a laughable bid to kick things off, which tells me either they don't have the kind of disposable money to take Brennan there or perhaps they don't necessarily value the player as highly as we do. For the first half of the season, I don't doubt Brennan would be their main man but as soon as Toney is back, he's more or less in the same spot as he would be here and absent Toney, I'm not sure they would be a million miles away from where we might be if things go well for us this year.

In the case of Villa, they seem to be building a team to try and go for the top four. Diaby seems to be their main target but now they're looking at Jeremy Doku, which begs the question of where is Brennan on their list of priorities? Villa are in a great position and a team looking ahead, but it feels like Brennan is a bit of a backup for them.

I can't see us letting him go for a price either would commit to signing him at. I can't see us accepting a fee in increments either given we'd be selling for FFP but also have to reinvest most in replacing Brennan. I also right now don't see either team making him feel the big deal here.

The last player who it seemed a lock would leave, was Matty Cash. We never involved him in our pre-season at all that summer, it was a lock he was moving on but with Brennan, I feel like it's going to take a real shift for him to leave this summer and honestly, if he does as good or better than last season, we'll be talking £60m next summer.

I agree.

I think there's a lot of clubs keeping a close eye on him but none that are prepared to pay the sort of money that gets you someone like Tonali who is an outstanding player, because he's only been in this league for a year and hasn't yet demonstrated he can be the main man at a European chasing side.

And let's face it, his goals kept us to last year, and so from a Forest POV there's no rush to sell because whilst we're still improving the side the reality is we will still lean heavily on BJ this season for output. Maybe not as much as last year depending on who comes through the door, but still a lot, and if his goals help keep us up again then that's another £120m in the piggy bank.

If he has another good season then it's much more likely a Liverpool, Spurs or Man Utd are prepared to pay £70m or so for him, at which point I think most of us would have to accept that's too much for us to turn down.

I’m still laughing at “if you are HOLDING OUT for £40m” - what a plonker

Villa fan - you’re ok, but BusyBeez or whatever his name is can F right off.
I have it on good authority BeesFan has returned to his own people as his work on this planet is done.

There is another aspect to Forest keeping him. I think his value to Forest is greater than his actual market value and as such it would be difficult to find a price that Forest would accept that another club would offer. I think keeping BJ and strengthening a few positions and Forest will easily avoid relegation. Selling BJ would put staying in the PL at risk and would put a huge amount of pressure on getting a good replacement which is not easy. I think that Forest would need Declan Rice type money to be able to justify selling him and I can't see any club paying that amount (this year anyway)

After this season I firmly believe his ambition will lay further afield than Villa, with all due respect.

It makes sense for him and us if he stays next season, then get a really big move. If Villa don't get him now, It wont happen.

Exactly the right point and the bit that WilloBeez was missing. Why would we sell for £30m or even £40m and then sit there wondering how we fill that hole that would be left. Because 2x Chris Woods isn’t helping much.

It's kind of paradoxical. Whatever Brentford are offering is not going to be enough, because it's Brentford offering it, and they didn't get to the dizzy heights of ninth in the Premier League by overpaying for players. And, at this point, anyone wanting Brennan Johnson is going to have to overpay.
